We just had a pretty severe earthquake in LA. First one I've felt since I moved here, but it seemed real legit. Lasted about 60 seconds.

Anyone else around here feel that?

Apparently registered 5.4 on the scale. Scary stuff.

My 53rd birthday, I was visiting my brother in Hawaii and sleeping on a cot next to a bookcase full of his books when I was awakened by this:

That bookcase was doing the funky chicken! Fortunately we had an excellent earthquake detection system- my sister-in law running through the house screaming that we were having an earthquake.

Did you see the video of last week's earthquake in LA? It is pretty funny. It is of a news broadcast, and they dive under the desk.
My son just moved out of LA to Seattle. He was there for 7 years. They had a pretty big one the week before he moved there, and 2 since he moved away last month. I guess he was good for California. None while he was there!!!

Tell him to watch a game with me. Hope to see you up here also.
Best summers anywhere... Shoot me a pm!

I've been out here since 1994. We're on the coast and it hit about 20 miles inland from us. It was definitely a "moving experience." It was the biggest shaker I've felt but that was because it was so close.
Scared the crap out of the wife and kids. They slept together with shoes, water, flashlights and Girl Scout cookies. I stayed up and wrote.
In the end, nothing broke and nobody got hurt...anywhere. Compare that to the hundred plus poor souls buried under mud in Washington or the twenty who died across the Northern US in the first week of this year from freezing to death. Not saying that makes it any easier. In the end, we'll move to Colorado - not to get away from earthquakes but to escape California socialism, and 50% taxes.
