Two years ago, the coaching staff started to talk about Petry during preseason camp.  Prior to that, he'd been a lightly recruited JUCO who only weighed 270 pounds, and was only playing on special teams.  When Wohlabaugh got injured early in the 2nd game, Petry had to step in and play at RT the rest of the way.  And he did a credible job.  As a right tackle, he was slightly below average, but got the job done and was serviceable.  Saved our bacon that year on the OL.

Last year, he held onto his starting job, shifting in to RG.  We didn't have the best OL, we didn't have a bad OL.  They mostly got the job done [and were probably slightly below average, but not bad].  Again, he did a commendable job at RG.  Serviceable.

I view Petry as an important part of the OL / two-deep.  Clearly, he's going to play, and play a lot.  Fran rotated tons of OL last season, and I'd expect that to continue.

But at the ACC level, I don't view Petry as anything more than serviceable.  Again, not a knock / insult.  But taking the OL to the next level means being able to supplant guys like this in the starting lineup.  If we can find a "better" RG, that is a sign that the OL quality / depth is improving, because it would shift him to the second unit.  And if we don't have anybody who can displace him from the starting lineup, then it is good that he is decently solid / serviceable.
