OT: Kentucky student hits half court shot; sponsor doesn't want to pay

Haha, seriously...isnt it worth it to pay 10,000 dollars you never thought you'd have to pay than be "that" guy errr super market?

Seems like it would be "worth" more than $10,000 in BAD publicity for the supermarket if they welch.

The kid should hire a lawyer tomorrow, sue the supermarket Monday morning for MORE than $10,000! Seriously he would win or the supermarket would settle and you demand MORE than the $10,000!. His foot wasn't over the line. It's the "spirit" of the rule vs the "letter" of the rule and no judge in America would rule in favor of the supermarket even if the kid's big toe was on or crossed the line. It wasn't like he took 5 steps into the front court for crying out loud. That was a half-court shot!

i would have thought it was secured shot.. likely cost them way less. like those hole in one contests.. doesnt really cost that much.. of course half court shot is not really tough

As someone who made the half-court shot @ the Dome 10 years ago (vs Hofstra 01-02 season), I experienced the greatest thrill and rush of my life when the shot went in. I got all my expected prizes and was treated really well by the university afterwards. UK or the supermarket better pay up!

If I'm the competitor supermarket in town I'm inviting that kid over tomorrow to the front door of one of the stores and presenting him with one of those comically oversized checks for $15k to tide him over while my rival market pulls its head out. Free hot dogs and soda for anyone that attends the ceremony in Kentucky blue.

New link at bottom of article says Kroger is now going to pay him. I wonder if the guy who refused to pay was ejected from Kroger by some higher ups who don't like bad publicity?

Half court shot...hmm...was that the thing they used todo where you had to make a layup, free throw, three and half court shot in a certain time to win two airline tickets?

No chair and no $10K either. I won:

- an SU visor
- Lunch for 2 @ Subway
- Dinner for 2 @ Colorado Mine Company restaurant on Buckley Rd
- A home gym
- Round-trip airfare for 2 anywhere in the continental US with US Airways (Ended up going to Vegas in the sweltering June heat).

All that for making a layup, free-throw, 3-pointer & half-court shot in 27 seconds. (3 seconds left on the shot clock when the half-court went in).

that's an old link and Krogers decided to pay the kid ... per your link

Update (6:31 ET): Matt Jones is now reporting Kroger will pay up...

the story was old news on Saturday
