OT Knicks - I think either Woodson or Melo needs to go

Last night's game was so frustrating to watch...

The Knicks go on a great run in the 4th quarter to take the lead and then the last 10 possessions of the game were isos to Melo and I think he hit 1 for 10. Also the best shot you can get with 5 seconds left is a that god awful three?

Either Woodson needs to start running an offense that doesn't consist of give it Melo for big shots at the end of games or Melo needs to go to a team with a coach strong enough to do that. Does anyone think Popovich would have let that bullshit offense go or would he actually try to run an offense?

Calling it now... Knicks will get a 3 or 4 seed depending on how badly the Nets flame out this year... win their first round series and lose in the 2nd round. Melo will then bail on his contract and resign with the Knicks for some ridiculous number that precludes him ever winning a title.

For better or for worse I don't think a team with Melo and no one else is ever going to win an NBA title and unfortunately for the rest of Melo 's career on the Knicks it looks like he is going to be the one superstar. For both his sake and the Knick's sake he's better off leaving New York because Dolan just does not know how to build a team.

Does it matter... last night was a repeat of just about every game against the Pacers last year during the playoffs.

And for the record I did say the Knicks are going to get either a 3 or a 4 and win the first round and lose the second. If you think things will play out differently please lest us know.

The point is if things don't change we all know what's going to happen.

I hear and second your frustration, and I agree they need another star, but... who else do you go to in crunch time? Felton? Shumpert?, Bargiani?
Melo has come through before and in this league you always go to your money player to finish the game.
Durant has Westbrook, LBJ has Wade, Kobe has Gasol...but they still keep the ball in their own hands and you have to hope they make the right play, whether its a shot or a pass.
That pull-up three WAS God awful, and I have no idea why Melo would lean on that on a bad shooting night. He has made them before though. But I agree that as constructed, this Knicks team ain't doing squat...again. :bang:

the end game iso's were insane and not running an offense is why i hate the NBA, but in fairness to Melo, nobody moves, nobody was open, the knicks have no other scorers and the Chicago defense was suffocating.

That said, Melo's game is lazy, he needs to take the ball hard to the hole, instead he settles for long jumpers because he's lazy.

Suspended 5 games...for being a head case...smoking weed.
Unfortunately, he's the only other valid option to create his own shot. When he played like crap in the playoffs, the Knicks got smoked.

I dont have a problem with iso Melo on the last play of the game. Kobe, LBJ, Durant all would do the same. Melo could have taken it to the basket but NY doesnt really get the benefit of the doubt with officiating so its pretty clear what the outcome would have been had he done so.

I do have an issue with iso Melo EVERY time down the floor after the Knicks tied it. It worked once and the Knicks grabbed the lead and then the next 4 iso Melo missed shots ensued. It did look like the Pacer series and that is scary but also positive in that the Knicks could have easily won a grind it out game against Chicago, in Chicago.

Woodson needs to figure out what his rotation is. Way too many substitutions to create any cohesion.

Amare...just go away.

You don't need to "go" to anyone. Iso after Iso down the stretch makes it too easy, especially for a great defense like Chicago. Move the ball. Get Melo the ball while he's on the move. Something

Last year's team worked because they hit an insane number of threes.

Without that threat, Melo is the offense for that team.

Felton is hurt. JR is suspended and crazy. Who are they going to go to?

I get the frustration, but if you swap out Melo with even an average player, this Knicks team isn't making the playoffs.

The anchor dragging this team down is Amare, not Melo.

Barring a miracle, they won't be able to beat the Bulls, Pacers or Heat in a seven game series.

In Melo's defense, he is not, will not, never has gotten the call against these types of teams. Kind of like how D-Rose can make a traveling jump pass for a layup on a fast break but Melo gets called for a phantom travel by never moving his pivot foot. Not to be "that guy" but no team gets the raw end of officiating more often than the Knicks.

Alot to be optimistic about so far with the Knicks but they wont advance too far in the Playoffs unless Woodson cleans up his rotations and learns how to actually run plays down the stretch aside from iso Melo. They can and should be plays that get Melo the ball but enough with the 24/7 end game iso, against good times its not going to work.

I, like many future posters, say, wait, this is the first game, same way I look at MCW's game. I was as equally dazzled by MCW as I was confound by 'Melo last nite, but...
its only one game.

Is spot on! This team makeup reminds me a lot of the pre'90 Bulls team, a lot of wierd, not quite there, parts, either too old, too raw or too bad to win, plus one guy that obviously cannot do it by himself.

Here is the thing. Melo is not going to win a title with this bunch. Melo needs to be a Paul Pierce to someone elses' Garnett, to be Kobe to someone elses Shaq, and...Lebron to someones elses' DWade.
Chandler is the closest the Knick's have but his game has some huge holes, more than I thought (a good supplemental player, bad foundation guy)
I'm a bit afraid we are starting to see what occurred in Denver at the end of 'Melo's tenure there. A prior poster mentioned this occurred in the Indiana series last year, and indeed it did, so its not new. I'm not basing this on one game, but the roster construction looks flawed to me, and 'Melo is the only high level talent.

Yes, poor execution down the stretch. But, Melo has a penchant for and a history of making shots in the closing moments. No one else was doing jack at that point. But, yes, Melo also needs to play for a coach he respects, not just a sycophant.

Melo's shot, likely goes in more often then not, not only in the clutch, but overall.

Haven't got a flavor for the Nets yet this year, but in my trips through this board I see you are not alone in your dislike for them. Is it primarily the Boston flavor they have now?
My personal dislike for them stems from the fact that Jay-Z disturbs me,( and the fact that a guy like him has a lot of money) , and their uni's suck.

Bulls are really good and owned the Knicks last year, in general, playign them down to the wire at their place is a good thing. Not happy about how the game turned out since we were right there, but this isn't the kind of game that makes me think the Knicks are screwed

This thread makes me lol. If Melo hits that three (which he almost did), there's no problem. But he missed it so now Woodson's a bad coach and his teammates should be upset lol. What do they have to be upset about? They want him to have the ball in those situations. It's not like he's hogging the ball and other guys are begging for it.

The Knicks are fine. They won't win a championship with this team because, like every single other team Melo's been on, not all of the pieces are there. The Knicks lack consistent secondary scorers (maybe Bargniani will come along) and the big man situation is pitiful after Chandler. That loss was not on Woodson or Melo. Chicago is a top 5 team and Rose hit a prayer shot. No shame in the loss.
