OT - Lattimore Update

Hmm, I read on SI.com there was definite ligament damage? At any rate, I wish the best outcome for the kid.

Is it possible to dislocate a knee and have no ligament damage? I'm not sure I buy that.

Ahh you might be right. This article has a little more info in it and it says the full extent of the knee damage isn't known yet.

My guess is he has a ton of swelling and they can't do an MRI until that subsides. Even if he doesn't have complete ruptures of ligaments, it doesn't mean that he doesn't have some sort of sprain with at least some of them. I watched the video a few times and it looks, to me, like his LCL is probably torn, based on the position his leg is in when he's sitting just as the training staff get to him.

Yeah his leg was bent in a way that legs are not supposed to be bent.

I read it was ACL, MCL, PCL and LCL tears with a broken femur and patella.

this is about right. You don't dislocate a knee unless theres near or total loss of ligamentous integrity. Patella yes you can dislocate it (and some people call that the "knee") without as much ligament damage.

No this is as bad as it gets, career defintely over type stuff, no way he'll return. In some respects it is like the Cody Catalina injury here. God aweful stuff. The only thing worse would be if the blood supply was lost with this catastrophic and injury which sometimes occurs.

Hearing that pop from the stands was the only thing I remember from that game. Worst injury I've ever seen live.
