OT: McAddoo, Hairston, Bullock to all return

Roy gets the most hyped McD All Americans to stay well beyond all expectations

James Michael McAdoo is the reason why I am ALWAYS in favor of kids leaving early while the iron is hot. He would have been a lottery pick if he left last year while he was the 4th or 5th option on a stacked team, but he came back and his stock his dropped drastically where he wouldn't go in the lottery in this weak draft. I never fault a kid for leaving its life altering money if even if its for 2 years in the NBA. Unless the kid actually cares about academics I never blame them for taking the money. North Carolina will struggle to a win a NC without a PG to play Roy's run, run, run style.

McAdoo is the most overhyped player in recent memory. He will never play in the NBA. Any GM that wastes a pick on him would become instantly infamous and be in the unemployment line. Not only is he awful but he is selfish besides. NC fans should have been hoping he left but maybe they have the same eye for talent as the consensus of our fanbase. lol.

Two titles in his 10 years there, yeah, he stinks.
Roy Williams is a HOF coach, but he tries to fit a round peg into a square hole. He rarely adjusts his style to his personel. I don't think he stinks, but I wouldn't call him a good bench coach like Jim Boeheim, Coach K, Rick Pitino, John Beilein, Bill Self. You realize that 2005 team was recruited by Matt Dougherty and took all their lumps with Dougherty as Frosh and Roy as Sophomores he did an excellent job because that team had Raymond Felton to run his run, run, run system perfectly. That 2009 team won because it had Ty Lawson who is probably the best pg ever for the Roy Williams system as he is one of the fastest guards I have seen in recent history and he can run a transition fast break beyond perfectly. Give Roy Williams an NBA PG and his system is AWESOME, if he doesn't have that NBA PG his teams aren't as consistent. I live in Charlotte and in the middle of Tarheel country and they love Roy, but trust me the fanbase has similar beliefs to what I posted they love him because he like JB is one of them, but his system isn't flawless and he has a lot of critics.

That 2005 team went 8-20 under Matt D their first year, and had the malcontent tag stuck on it.

My bigger point is that to me, it's ridiculous to say good thing Ole Roy is there. I watch that team a decent amount and they got a lot better as the season wore on, and unlike a lot of coaches he actually lets them play basketball they way it should be played. Like you said, the guy is a HOFer. Pitino, JB, etc all have holes in their game as well.

I agree. Roy Williams is a terrific coach.

Apparently UNC needs a message board to tell all of their players to leave early. Duke too. Strange how they have a history of success with their players hanging around. Maybe some of you should start posting on their boards and instead of arguing why our players should leave ASAP(or wasting time on the Boneyard), encourage theirs instead :) Forget UConn, UNC and Duke.

Yep, it's the modern American way, something for nothing, instant gratification, etc. For lack of a better word, a modern day fraud system. Hey, go get the money now, cuz you really aren't worth a , well, nowhere near that amount of coin anyway. But who cares, they're the fools and you'll get the last laugh all the way to the bank...certainly after they realize you were nothing more than a junk bond...as Steve Miller would say...'Go On Take The Money And Run.'

Yeah. I remember in January or so a lot of people were putting UNC into the NIT and saying Roy sucked or was overrated or whatever. He adjusted, went small, and they finished strong and won a game in the tournament. They weren't great, but they did better than most would've thought in January

The decision to go with 4 guards was one of the gutsiest call of the year.

Isn't he a very poor man's Otto Porter?
He does have some versatility (good defender and rebounder) but there's something very wrong about a 6'9 "stud" forward that shoots 44%. Of Grant, Fair and Southerland, they all shot at a higher percentage this year and two of them take outside shots. McAdoo does not. And still doesn't convert. Prerequisite of the NBA. Convert.

I don't think he has much in common with Porter. He does play soft and needs a fire to his game, though. Another year might really help.

I do think they are both good defenders, have the ability to defend at the next level.
But you're right. It ends at that. :)

When Roy takes Providence to the FF, I'll mention him in the same breath as Pitino.

This is a little bit of an over-the-top review on McAdoo, imo. He's pretty good, dude. That team was dysfunctional for much the season. He absolutely WILL play in the NBA. He can be a ball hog sometimes but he has skills, obviously.

And when Roy leaves 2 NBA jobs under the odd circumstances of both, I'll also mention him in the same breath as Pitino.

NBA is a different beast - for some reason very few college coaches do well there. Pitino's college career is spectacularly good and he didn't just do it at two blue blood magnet schools.

Yeah they cannot buy talent. He did a great job at PC, no doubt and got out before he was called to sustain it. Kentucky / UL is as blueblood as UNC / KU.

And he turned an invisible basketball school into a very competitive basketball team while he was at Boston University. Actually took them to an NCAA tourney.
