Greta job of commentary by Collingsworth at the end, pointing out that while Carter, a rookie basically decided the game by allowing himself to get hit with the punt, Welker, the veteran, who is however not their normal punt returner, failed to warn him in time to get out of the way.
I will go to my grave believing that the worst rule in all of sports is the "catch it in your butt rule" that if a punt touches a player on the receiving team ,it's a fumble, regardless of whether the player ever had possession to begin with or was even trying to catch the ball in the first place. The rule should be that if the ball hits a player's hand or hands, it'a muffed punt and can be recovered b y the other team. if it just bounces off some other part of his body, that's a penalty for delay of game or something like that. Turnovers are of such huge importance, (and they completely dominated this game), that they just shouldn't be that cheap. Either they should represent a major blunder by the team possessing the ball or a great play by the defending team. To have a great and important game like this decided on a play like that is just absurd. It cheats everyone.
Agree on Colinsworth, he absolutely nailed it. Welker left his teammate in a very difficult position. As for your thoughts on the rule I respectfully disagree. I think that creates an element of excitement to an otherwise boring plays. What every NFL fan should be concerned about it the lack of PI in OT. This isn't basketball you need to call a consistent game from bell to bell
Well it's Carter's 5 th year in the league. But yeah Welker called that one late.Great job of commentary by Collingsworth at the end, pointing out that while Carter, a rookie basically decided the game by allowing himself to get hit with the punt, Welker, the veteran, who is however not their normal punt returner, failed to warn him in time to get out of the way.

Very well could've, but like swc said Welker isn't our normal returner. That said, very disappointed that it even came down to that. Oh well, Manning and co have to focus on a trip to Arrowhead next week.No idea why Welker didn't just field the punt in the first place. Did he misjudge it because of the wind?
