Changes to the way that infractions are classified and punished. New 4-tier system of infraction severity, for instance, including a "minor" or "technical" violations class for which there isn't a real competitive advantage gained.

Most interestingly, coaches are now assumed to be responsible for what happens on their watch, and will have to go in front of the tribunal to plead why they didn't know what was happening on their watch. That should make for good theater, and hopefully some of the big-money factory cheaters will get nailed.

The NCAA is like the presidential political ads. They come out and say they will have "strong" policies, then don't do lick when something actually happens.

Cough, UK, Cough.

Yep. Tonight there are big UK boosters all around the state toasting themselves and laughing this off. They are Teflon.

it's like putting darrel issa in charge of punishing republicans in congress...nothing will happen

The NCAA should concern itself with illegal recrutiing enducements and fake eligibilty. Criminal matters should be handled by the courts. Tattoos? Who cares?

So, tattoos are OK? How about cars? Ca$h?

None of those three are illegal in the eyes of the law. They're simply gifts.

If the NCAA were to ignore those current infractions, as you suggest, then almost all private schools should drop their athletics programs to lower levels of competition. The alumni of large state schools will be easily able to outspend those of private schools. Cam Newton could've made a lot more on the open market.

If it's not a reason for kids to go to that school rather than another, (and I can't imagine bartering for tatoos is), or a means of maining fake eligilbity, what's the problem?
