Having played in college myself, love college baseball and Omaha is on my sports bucket list. 25k+ at every game. Great fan bases of OSU and Arkansas, a great, epic comeback for OSU last night, down to their last out, then last strike. Was truly what sports are all about.

630 eastern start time tonight and alot of juice . Love the espn team in the booth including Ravech, Perez, and Peterson. Tons more juice and personality than the ESPN Sunday night MLB team "lead" by A-Rod. A joke. This college series and Ravech et al ARE killing it. 2 fun teams, the OSU lineup is murder's row, draft picks and scrappy. Go OSU.

There's just something about the sound of an aluminum bat that makes college baseball players seem like Little Leaguers to me.

Damn, I checked in to say the same thing.

I love baseball. I would love to get into the college game. But I've never been able to get past that horrible 'ping' sound. (Also, of all the college sports, the baseball kids seem the least relatable for me...the demographics really have changed over the course of a generation.)

It feels like after they get a hit, they're going to run back to the dugout for Caprisun and Big League Chew.

They don't use aluminum any more. Been a while. Composite now. Does not change your point, but the sport is no longer like a pin ball game it was about 10-12 years ago. In fact, a few years back, the balls and bats were so dead that there was only 1-2 homers hit during the entire CWS in Omaha. I don't watch a ton of college baseball, but am always attracted to the grit and hustle that comes from almost every player among the 8 teams in Omaha.

Saw the stadium when I was in Omaha for the Sweet 16 basketball game. It is downtown, across the street from the arena where we played basketball. It is very impressive looking. It is the home field of Creighton.

And the home field of the Royals' AAA affiliate, the Storm Chasers, I believe.

I've started following college baseball more since a couple schools I follow have recently turned their programs around in recent years. If it could be worked out weather-wise and with Title 9, I'd love for SU to restart the program. Kind of annoys me we are the only ACC school without one. I'd take baseball over hockey in a heartbeat. Never been a hockey fan - I'd rather watch paint dry.

The SU lax program fills the Spring sports gap that (lack of) baseball creates. The other 2 northern schools--Pitt & BC--have baseball, but no lacrosse.

Incidentally, SU is not the only P-5 school without baseball. Colorado, Iowa St and Wisconsin don't play the sport.

Hadn't thought about the lacrosse angle even though it's an obvious good point. I'd still like to bring baseball back if we were to add a sport, especially over hockey. Just my preference. But with lacrosse, you're right that there isn't a huge need.

I'm well aware there are other P-5 schools without baseball - Iowa State is another.

Interesting , weird that ISU doesn't play it. I see why SU and wisky don't im a way although Maine and Michigan were powerhouses for years so it can be done in a northern climate.

The reason has always been the premise that college talent would break too many bats and cost would be an issue. I personally dont see a huge difference given these composite bats are $500. The sweet spot on a wood bat has more spring than the metal and composites, its just smaller. Nothing like the crack of the bat.

Very true, the right fielder probably should have called that foul ball for Ark in game 2. The ball was hit too high to not be caught. That said, the beavers were clutch. OSU hax a deep and talented lineup that puts the bat on the ball.

Actually, the reason is the weather and the changed academic calendar. When SU's graduation changed from June to May, the in-session window for a baseball season became very small. Teams in the South and West play in March and even February. That's a tremendous disadvantage for Northeastern schools (BC went 0 for the ACC a couple of seasons ago). You can ship your team south for the bulk of the early season games, but the added travel expense and missed class time then become major problems.

Not the case when Buffett as in Warren owned the Storm Chaser had dispute with city so they built a brand new 10k seat stadium in suburbs which is very nice. Lincoln 40 miles away also has a great new stadium. Good baseball scene here much more advanced than upstate at youth ages as well.

Don’t drag the good name of Big League Chew into this. It’s a national treasure.

Great chewing texture with superior bubble capability. Shredded gum FTW!
