Pugilists are not gladiators.  This isn't a fight until one is dead sport.  If it were, it would have disbanded years ago.  Just because the 80's-90's gave us the most entertaining pugilist in the history of the sport.  Tyson was an enigma, however, he did not redefine the sport.  You have to understand the true sport of boxing to be able to appreciate what actually transpired last night.  If boxing was all about finding the next Tyson, MMA never would have risen to popularity.  Truth.

Anyone who has followed the sport heavily over the last 30 years knew exactly what the fight was going to be last night.  I went into it knowing that if the fight lasted 12 rounds, Mayweather would win.  Mayweather is as intelligent a boxer as we've ever seen.  He avoids the big punches and thus avoids taking a heavy amount of damage.  As a counter puncher, he avoids the big blows and lands a few strong counters each round to earn him enough points to capture each round.  At 38, it's extremely impressive he has remained as elusive as he has.  There really is only one way to beat Mayweather and that is to knock him out/down early in the fight.  Otherwise, he'll win more rounds than he loses.  Thus, Pacquiao's only chance was to knock him down/out.  He was not able to take Mayweather out of his fight.

I can understand your frustration.  Last night's fight was hyped enormously.  However, if what you're looking for is a sport resembling modern day gladiators, keep tuning into MMA.  MMA is not boxing.
