A West Virginia State Bar spokesperson said Wednesday that bar membership records show Ford's law license has been suspended in 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011. The latest suspension took effect Aug. 8, 2011, for a noncompliance violation concerning mandatory continuing legal education. His 2009 suspension was for the same reason, while the remaining suspensions stemmed from nonpayment of annual dues and noncompliance with disclosures of financial requirements.
Ford, who was admitted to the bar in 1999, was reinstated to active status in September.
"At this point, he is active and in good standing with the bar," the bar spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the state's Office of Disciplinary Counsel said Wednesday that there are nine open complaints against Ford, six of which have resulted in a statement of charges.
"There are six different counts, but that matter has not yet reached a conclusion," the spokesperson told The Journal.
In addition, six other complaints filed against Ford since 2008 were closed, two of which resulted in "admonishments" by investigative panels convened by the state's Lawyer Disciplinary Board.
