college hoops coverage.

GT-St John's runs over. Rather than going directly to UNC-Miami, we get instead 3:30 of commercials (all while action continues). Flash on the game from Coral Gables for one trip down the court. Whistle, time out, break for 2+ minutes of commercials.

Dollars and (no)sense.

Edit: not sure how advertising and the media work, but perhaps they are contractually obligated and that break between games is mandatory?

Or what's even worse--when that scenario happens where a game goes over, then they go to commercial, then come back for an interview on the court, then go to the studio for five minutes, then go to 3 1/2 minutes of commercials, and then joining the second game in action, 8 minutes in.

The only thing to know is that it's ALL about the Benjamins.
That's the reason TV outlets pay so much for rights and college basketball brings in so much TV revenue.
They'd sooner miss a 90 foot game winning shot than a commercial.

Your last line, unfortunately, is only mild hyperbole.

There's a massive list of broadcasting pet peeves. These ones definitely make the list. Some additional ones:

- Missing a play because the camera is focusing on a coach, someone on the bench, or someone in the crowd.
- When one game runs long and another is starting up, the broadcast lingers on the game that just finished so you can watch and make sure everyone' shakes hands. And then, finally, after a few painful minutes watching people milling around after the game, the cut to the other game.

Seriously, has that ever happened?

Your #1 just drives me bonkers when that happens. TV production is really bad sometimes.
