The bottom has dropped out exponentially with your talent base.  No matter how you rationalize it, you--at best--have an uphill climb.  What is more likely is that you are in an insurmountable hole, by big boy conference standards.  Second rate conference + lousy record + unproven coach + no real prospect of being elevated to a major conference isn't the recipe for rebuilding that you and your groupthink limited brethren would like to pretend.  Heck, you'll be lucky to compete for the top half of the AAC in football, let alone respectability.

UMass in hoops and Temple in football; that's what is staring you in the face in three years once recruits get a sense of where your programs stand in the pecking order in both sports.  Good luck recruiting once prospects figure out that you aren't playing quality teams anymore in the AAC.
