OT: So Marrone has a DC opening and Schiano is looking for a job...

With Pepper Johnson leaving the Patriots Schiano will likely become assistant football coach/linebackers coach for the Patriots. Even though I hate Schiano and he is a douche nozzle Belichick will give him a job.

Sorry, but every time I hear there's someone named Pepper, I have to do the obligatory

Sorry, Scott Shafer already taken. Plus who would want him after a disasterous season at Michigan? :bat:

Schiano is a good defensive coach and he and Marrone were friends, contrary to popular belief.

If I were HBBCDM I would bring Shady up for an interview...then just sit there and laugh at him...then I'd tell him the interview was over, all the while I would be humming the Lumberjack song.

So it appears Pettine had to get away from Ryan's shadow to make his own name. Marrone gives him free rein, the defense improves markedly (kept the team in games anyway), and Pettine makes his name and opportunity arises? If that's the way it played out, it seems the Bills' DC is an attractive job for an existing talent. With Shafer at SU and Pettine in Buffalo, Marone is two for two in his DC picks.

May the Schwartz be with you...

The #Bills announce they’ve agreed to terms with DC Jim Schwartz, former Lions coach. Tough to make a better hire there.

Mr Peabody, as a hardcore bills fan, what are your thoughts on the Schwartz hire?

I'm on board with this. Not a typical Buffalo Bills hire. He might even turn out to be a bit of an upgrade over Pettine.

One other plus of Schwartz in Buffalo: Experience working with uber-talented d-linemen in DET/TEN. He gets Mario, Kyle W, and Dareus now.

Love the Schwartz hire! Guy is aggressive so getting after the passer should be the focus again!

Very different from a typical bills hire!

I like the pick. Good track record on the D side and a ton of experience. Plus he didn't take Harbaugh's back slap any better than HCSS took Dabo's first half piling on. I like that fire.

Schwartz allows Marone to focus on the offensive side and mentor Hackett. I think in time Hackett will be a very good OC, but time for a Bills fan is ... well it's 14 years and counting.

Good insight. And it's SMFS.
