ESPN basketball analyst Jay Bilas gave some invaluable real world advice in his commencement speech to Queens University of Charlotte graduates last Saturday.

Bilas, who played basketball and received a law degree from Duke University, delivered pearls wisdom to students including, “Don’t click on Internet porn at work,” and that men should wear an undershirt underneath a suit and tie.

“Don’t ask me why. Just do it. It just works,” he said.

Bilas, who still has a great face for TV despite a little thinning on top, said graduates should “take tons of pictures,” adding, “In the future, you are really going to like the way that you look now. This is the smallest your butt will ever be, and you have the most hair now that you’ll ever have.”

That's why God invented cell phones.

. Im tired of seeing these damn people in the customer service industry on their damn phones. Going through the grocery store checkout, I cant count how many times the cashier never said a word, never looked up as she texted or was on the net on her phone.

Never had that happen, but if it did, s/he would be told that they don't check out my order until they put down the phone.

Its all over, except for Wegmans, when I go back to Syracuse I never see it there.

I have the utmost respect for folks working in the service industry. Low pay, negligible benefits, standing on their feet all day, rude customers. I've never once seen one on their cell phone.

I have literally never seen this before, and I have shopped at some sub standard establishments (Kroger, Acme, Giant, Food Lion...)

Open your eyes man, its all over. Down here and in Syracuse

You're not looking then, its all over. A co worker and myself were having just this very conversation about this subject a few days ago when he came into my office stating just the same I did about the cell phone use.

Never seen this either.

when I worked in the customer service industry I was on my cell phone in my early 20's, as were plenty of my co workers.

Hell even now the good majority of people at any job is on their cell phone at one time or another, is it so far fetched to think the customer service industry is immune to this? Come on.

I worked in retail service while I was putting myself through college.

It's everywhere and increasing everyday with the sheer volume of smart phones getting out there with each passing day. I don't recall cashier's using their smart phones when they are checking out customers, but while waiting for people to join their line? sure. I've seen people whip out phones when they see a customer with a look on their face indicating they want to ask a question as a way to prevent the customer from speaking to them.

I have also seen people working with customers whip out a phone to check online inventories, and help answer customer questions. So in a way, proper cell phone use. But thats most definitely a minor use compared to improper useage.
