It looks like the son of former SU player Richard Manning got drafted in the first round of the MLB draft tonight:

MLB draft tracker: Every first-round pick

Mods, feel free to move this to the Other Sports forum, but it seems like it belongs on the hoops board given the tie to...

I never understood why he left SU. He was set up to get some minutes the next year, if I remember correctly.

I think the thing that did him in [or turned him off to his SU experience] was when we landed LeRon Ellis. I think Manning was positioned to play a much more prominent role--he clearly had talent / borderline NBA ability--but he ended up sitting that second year, and then headed off to greener pastures.

Ramon Ramos from Seton Hall. He played on that great team that should have won a NC. Very tragic story. Had a big opportunity to make some NBA cash. I had to google it but he is still alive. I wasn't sure.

Yeah, if he was patient, he would have been really good hear. He showed a lot of potential. And, he had the original Rico stache.

Manning is best known for his role getting the SU program on probation.

He cooperated with the NCAA and gave them a lot of damaging info. Don't look for him to be invited back to campus anytime soon...

I didn't remember Manning's role. George Papadakos was also one, correct?

In marked contrast to Sean Kerins, who refused to talk to the NCAA.

I really liked that 89 Seton Hall team. Gaze and Ramos were the stars. They lost in the finals at the Kingdome to Michigan in OT.
Ramon probably would have had a long NBA career.

What a great game. Tough late blocking call cost them title. To get that close and be denied in the waning seconds is tough, as SU fans understand. I'm sure P.J. knew he was unlikely to ever have another chance like that again.

Wasn't that John Karpis and George Papadakis?

Traitors!!!

What a pile of steaming junk those allegations were. Upwards of 200 violations outlined by the PS, and we got nailed for about 10, most of which were pretty minor [maybe with the lone exception of the Bill Rapp x-mas card $$$, which was still fairly low amount / minor].

Bad times...

I've got a new assignment for Marvin Harrison
