St. John's sophomore point guard Nurideen Lindsey will leave the Red Storm and transfer to another school, the Daily News has learned.

Two independent sources confirmed to the News that Lindsey would leave at the end of the semester.

Lindsey, who transferred in from Redlands CC in El Reno, Oklahoma, was the team's leading scorer after seven games, but has struggled in the past two games for the 4-5 Johnnies. In road losses to No. 1 Kentucky and Detroit Mercy, he scored five points with one assist while committing 11 turnovers. "I'm definitely not as aggressive as I was. I will eventually get back to that point," he said Monday after the loss to Detroit in which he had four points, zero assists and six turnovers.

It's unclear if Lindsey's poor play the past two games is related to wavering feelings about St. John's in general or the team's lack of success thus far.

Lindsey comes from tough circumstances in the West Philadelphia neighborhood where he grew up. Two of his brothers were murdered. After the his younger brother, Halim, was shot in 2009, Lindsey spiraled into depression. He did not play organized basketball for a little less than two years before enrolling at Redlands and reviving his career.

Lindsey is averaging 11.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists in almost 30 minutes per game this season. He has dealt with on-court adversity, missing two free throws with 2.3 seconds left in the game on Nov. 18, a one-point loss to then-No. 19 Texas A&M.
