Why is there nowhere free to park to go to the SU bookstore. Wanted to get a couple things for my sister's baby shower on Saturday from there. Was told that there was $5 parking across the street. I'm not paying $5 to park somewhere for 15 mins.

Best bet is to find a space near Walnut Park and put 50 cents in the meter.

Because cities think they can make money by screwing people over instead of realizing people will go to places that are more convenient and customer friendly with free parking.

Try going into Sheraton garage ... and very sweetly promising to leave in 15 minutes with your bookstore receipt. This has worked for me. (Obviously do not try it on a game day or other high-occupancy time). The worst thing that can happen is that they say no.

Most week-days there are scores of empty parking spaces there. It is designed for high-occupancy weekend parking

Can I just say that your influence on your nephew/niece is perfect. I did the same. Must start early with the minions so they continue the tradition. My nephew already recognizes Otto at 2.5 years old. I taught him a 3 point stance and touchdown so far. Sorry, I digress. G'Orange and congrats to your family.

I thought cities charge money for parking because if they didn't there would be no available parking spots. They would be full all the time with cars of people using the spaces intended as short term parking as long term parking.

Parking is one of the reasons why SU wanted to move it to the University Ave garage.

if there were free parking, you'd never get a spot to go to the bookstore.

paid parking allows for someone who wants to quickly run in the bookstore to actually do so

Plenty of places having parking spots designated "15 Minute Parking Only" or the like. Doesn't seem that hard to do. I'm not against paying for parking. I've donated a lot of money to SU over the years to pay for parking. It's more about not giving the University another $5 for 15 minutes of my time.

It's really not a big deal. Just found it odd that there is obviously a large amount of people (students included) that need to access the bookstore that don't live on campus. You'd think it would be a little bit more accessible is all.

but then, you are YOU.

are there any college campuses where you can park for free without issues on central campus? none that i have ever been on . many you cant drive on campus at all

I never had to pay to park on my daughters' campuses. But those were colleges -- Lafayette and Franklin & Marshall -- not universities. Come to think of it though, I've never paid to park in the Visitor lots at Notre Dame. Admittedly, I've never parked there on game day.

Either order online from the bookstore or go to Manny's and buy something there. Either way you won't need to pay your $5.

My first child is due within two weeks. The outfit he/she will come home in is Syracuse head-to-toe (hat, mittens and booties included) Compliments of Basic Baby, very good people.

START EM YOUNG

Your first problem here is buying something from the bookstore. You can find the same things online for half the price.

Online is def the way to go. Unfortunately I'm an idiot and need something by Saturday. Will probably just try Manny's, like cliftonparksu fan said.

Yeah, I appreciate the need for SU to charge for parking (as it's in high demand), but the bookstore itself is overpriced and not worth the trip; Manny's would be a better option.

That's what I'm talking about.

Could be. Whatever the reason, lack of parking and having to pay for it is why I avoid downtown areas of any city as much as possible. I'll go to the mall where there is an abundance of free parking and I can purchase anything I need or want.
