Allie LaCombe who scored the game winner against Providence (above) earlier this month, scored what proved to be the game winner last night at Tennity Ice Pavillion.

The program has one of the toughest schedules in the nation, HC Paul Flanagan would have it no other way. His aim is to make SU the best team in the nation. From what I understand this group might be the one that makes some noise come this March.

The girls take on Union today 2 PM at home.

Congratulations to the Syracuse University Hockey program on a great & dominating performance!

Certainly recommend people in the area check out this team (and the other SU Olympic sports). Admission is free, you can sit close to the action, and there is only a slight amount of swearing in the stands (thanks visiting BC parents in the final two minutes).

If you have kids and hang around after the game, most of the SU athletes are happy to visit with them, sign posters, etc.

My kids team had a practice at Tennity last year and the girls came out and skated with the boys . They also posed for pictures with them. Great group of student athletes!

Might be worth checking out the babes in their hot uniforms.:rolling:

Seriously, where is Tennity located?

Tomcat & I were all set to attend the Union game when a friend called about a $20 special at Seven Oaks.

We got hijacked.

In retrospect I wish we had attended the hockey as the wind whipped the entire 18.

BTW men's D-1 club team has won 5 straight and will likely be ranked nationally next week. Also play at Tennity. Players skilled, games played at high level with lots of hitting and free. Five home games in Nov. See www.suhockey.com

I love hockey, I played hockey, and women's hockey is not remotely close to the men's game. The lack of speed, the lack of checking, and the overall lack of skill comparatively. Women's college hockey is about on par with an average midget team.

In juniors a team in our league played an exhibition against the US Women's Olympic Team and was up 7-0 after the first period. That's a group of high school kids from Toledo, Ohio against the best women's team
in the world.

The fact that we have a women's team and the men are not NCAA is ridiculous. Title IX at its finest.

Indeed, our boys would mercy them, even with no checking. The boys new coach played at BC and has dream of NCAA D-1 team here. Insane $$$ needed however, at least if you follow the Penn State model. BTW, I bet Rutgers elevates their team to NCAA (very comparable to SU now) once in the Big10.

As you probably know, PSU received an $88 million donation to start their hockey program. And the BiG is offering a monetary incentive those schools who play hockey in conference an additional $2 million a year.

Unless we get a huge donation and were guaranteed a spot in Hockey East, Does it make monetary sense to upgrade the club team? I have the feeling the ACC would prefer it if we added baseball.

Cheers,
Neil

Tennity is located right next to the woman's softball field at sky top. Across from the bar up there.

Thanks--I will make a point to check it out--drag the Missus along as well.

Lame. Be happy for the success of all SU sports. Should we drop women's basketball as CJ would score 100 on them?

Very disappointed in this post. You just put down women's sports topped off with an ax to grind. Women don't have to beat men to provide entertainment and excitement. There are some women's sports I like better than others but I accept their game as is.

I enjoy watching the women's game a lot. Not the same as the men's game; the players are smaller, slower and with no checking, it puts a premium on skill rather than brawn. The women's program has done a terrific job becoming competitive so quickly. Props to Flanagan and his staff doing a great job.

I recommend stopping by Tennity some day and checking the team out. It is worth your time.

BTW, they beat Union on Saturday 5-2.

Here is the schedule for the rest of the season. The games against Colgate and Cornell at the War Memorial will be big ones for the program. Cornell is undefeated and ranked #3 in the country. Colgate is well, Colgate, 2-6 on the season. The world needs ditch diggers too (they really aren't that bad, should be a good game).

And our baseball "season" would last five minutes. Kind of a weather problem with baseball. Does BC play baseball? We had the same issues when golf was dropped (I played golf).

Yes, BC plays baseball. As do Pitt and ND.

I'd prefer hockey myself, but does it make sense if we aren't going to play it in Hockey East?

Damn right I have an axe to grind.

When we did the proposal in 1998 for the men's team to transition to NCAA Division-I, they did not contribute in any way, no matter how much we had engaged them to do so. They were an albatross and our proposal covered both the men's and women's teams moving up, and the research and feasibility that we performed covered both teams. And again, they did absolutely nothing. This is on top of the fact that we had given them equipment and support. Even the building of Tennity Pavilion was much a result of our work, and was subsequent to the proposal.

They were an albatross and in the end, they were the ones escalated to the NCAA.

So yes, I have an axe to grind, and rightly so.

No one from the current women's program was involved in any decision back in 98...are you talking about the SU admins?

My disdain is directly tied to the administration's decision to elevate the women's team while not doing so for the men. Though there may be a women's team, the fact that there is even an on-campus arena was tied to our efforts. That the program that did nothing reaped the benefits of our work leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and I think rightly so.

Ok, that's understandable . I thought the rink was built for a "non-alcohol" alternative activity for students with specific instructions that it wasn't to become an Athletics facility? That's what I've been told as to why the bleachers, etc. are set-up the way they are in there.

The story you have is a decent part of it, but what matters is who it was sold to for getting the donation, and as you mentioned, the stands were set that way for a very specific purpose. There were conditions that came with getting that rink built.

It's a long story fit for a board tailgate.

Your point is men are better so they should have more opportunity ?
