Archbishop Hoban coach Tim Tyrrell and Walsh Jesuit coach Gerry Rardin are excited for the 2014 football season with several talented players returning.
Hoban and Walsh both missed out on the 2013 playoffs, Hoban in Division III and Walsh in Division II, but each has aspirations of joining the postseason party again soon.
Hoban is set to feature running back Todd Sibley, who is 5-foot-10 and 198 pounds and will be a sophomore, along with rising senior Ted Stieber, a 6-foot-6 and 315-pound offensive lineman.
Sibley attended Ohio State’s spring football game earlier this month. Stieber was also invited, but was unable to attend.
Tyrrell said Sibley has visited OSU and Michigan, and is also garnering interest from Cincinnati, Notre Dame, Boston College, Miami (Fla.), Arkansas and Akron.
“He really loves Michigan and Ohio State,” Tyrrell said. “Those are his dream schools.”
Tyrrell said Stieber holds several scholarship offers, and “really likes Akron and Toledo.”
“Basically all the MAC schools offered him early,” Tyrrell said. “The bigger schools are now starting to come in. Ohio State hasn’t offered yet, but Urban Meyer wants to see him in a camp in June, and Michigan [coach Brady Hoke] said the same thing. Rutgers has offered him out of the Big Ten, Illinois has offered him out of the Big Ten and Northwestern is coming down next Tuesday to visit.”
