Barkley has told teammates he’s returning. Look for good news for USC fans at 4.

He must want to be the #1 pick and/or not want to end up on Washington.

Bad decision imo. I sure as hell wouldn't risk it knowing that you're a top 10 pick.

Dang... Hope he doesn't pick us apart again next year!

Good for him. I am so glad to see kids stay in school and not make the jump just to make the jump. I'd risk it and would advise my son to do the same thing if he were in his shoes.

If my son (that doesn't exist) was offered a position at a computer company and that position might not be available a year from now plus they offered to pay him $50 million or more within a 5 year period of time I would tell him he would be crazy to stay in college.

Not a bad choice. He gets the be the face of college football and bang on SC chicks all year.

Completely agree. I never understood the cliche of staying in school in order to get your degree. Your brain isn't going anywhere, but your body is. You have a limited window of time to make a living playing professional football - have to strike while the iron is hot.

He hasnt played in a real bowl game since coming to USC, has a shot to win the heisman and a national championship, as well as being the #1 pick in next years draft and NOT having to play for a crap franchise ASIDE from getting a degree. Oh and his parents are loaded.

No brainer.

Barkley can always get an insurance plan in case he suffers a career ending injury though it wouldn't be anything compare to the money he would make over an NFL career.

Agree 100%, take the insurance out to guard against worst case scenario. Sam Bradford gor hurt and it didn't effect him too much either. If I thought I was on a college team that could win a national championship and I could win the heisman, get the degree, and then in a year be the #1 pick, I would stay as well. It has much more to do with than just getting the degree

if he were a wisconsin qb, yeah. but the non-pecuniary perks that go along with being a good looking star qb at USC can't be matched anywhere.

Well said. I completely agree.

Big difference between the #1 and #8 picks in compensation due to the new CBA. He's not really leaving money on the table if he's a top 3 pick next year, he's gaining money. With Luck being the consensus number 1 pick, it's not as crazy as you think.

What cares-hes at usc-university of syracuse california?

Pretty simple economics as far as I'm concerned. You take the millions you would definitely get now instead of the hope of not getting hurt and hurting your draft status later. Those insurance policies by our standards would be great money but in comparison to what your losing they aren't.

College football is my favorite sport, and believe me, I share your sentiment that winning a national title and winning a Heisman trophy are very special things. What annoys me is when commentators constantly make that cliche argument (Vitale does this ALL the time) that players should always stay in school and get their degree, when for many, it's simply not the best life decision.

ask matt leinart how that worked out

He made his millions. Didnt work out that bad. Leinart was also a bum and had the work ethic of a gnat.

True, but he lost out on about $50 mil by not going when he would've been the lock #1 pick. goes back to school, gets hurt and drops to #10. cost him a ton.

he is a terrible QB though, i agree.

Him staying in school for his last year was the perfect decision. Why? Cuz thats what he wanted to do. Luck passed up last year and its gonna cost him millions but he doesnt seem to worried about it. Worst case senario he blows his NFL career and Dr. Gross will have to hire him as the new Assistant Athletic Director of Quarterback recruiting and training(AADQBRT).

Jake Locker if he came out was going #1, he stayed in school. Went 8th the next year.

If Barkley came out he was Top 3. With teams like Miami, Washington and Cleveland in dire need of a QB, he wouldn't have fallen below 5, probably gone 2 with a team trading up.

How did it work out for Luck coming back this year? Or Peyton Manning?
