as a 36 year old antique, it bothers me that a 28 year old has earned a "Roy Hobbs" reference.

Shorter careers in football makes 28 a heckalot older in football than it would be in baseball. Although less so at quarterback then some other positions, I suppose.

It's the old Roger Staubach theory of "it's not the year, it's the mileage". The thought was that Roger didn't age football-wise during his five year Navy hitch. So in reverse dog years he was still 22 rather than 27. Makes some sense that it's the pounding not the calendar that leads to short NFL careers.
