LinkedIn has posted university rankings for a number of professional fields and Syracuse is well represented. Being the definitive social network for professionals - I think these are rankings that aren't easily dismissed.
Accounting - SU #12

How do they not have an engineering ranking? Im not talking software here, i'm talking A&E, MEP type Engineering.

Linkedin has 5 Ivies in the top 15 for media schools.

I work in media.

This ain't a profession loaded with Ivy League grads, to put it mildly.

I question their methodology.

;)

Everything is fixed , that's what this once great meritocracy has come to . Welcome to Byzantium .

Hey, that's fair. I guess what I meant is that LinkedIn has a ton of data to work with and they aren't relying on surveys from Universities to put this all together. Also, I'm proud to see SU listed in the top 25 of these important categories.

I was just kidding. :)

The Media list is a joke. There is no way Howard and Hofstra are better than SU ... by any measurement. NYU and Northwestern do have good media schools... and Duke is Duke. But Howard and Hofstra?

people with really great jobs probably aren't on linkedin. it's beneath them. wait i'm on linked in and that's how i got out of my last horrible job. (nothing's beneath me)

selection bias

just like the facebook stuff. it never occurs to the people who work for facebook and linked in that their users might not be representative

Also, reading about their "selection process," it seems it would pick up a lot of low-level persons at Amazon and every other "internet" company... but would not include folks in such places as the White House communications office.. or in the advertising department of a major non-media corporation like IBM or P&G. Major corporations and government offices are full of high-level (and highly paid) "media professionals" who don't work for "media companies"

I would guess that the most accurate list is the Software Developers at Startups; the Bay area schools are up top and almost everyone working in the field is going to be using LinkedIn.
