OT: Vacation reading ideas

I need some ideas to download to my nook. Some that I have read on previous vacations include Basketball Junkie (Chris Herren), The Long Run (Matt Long story), the Steig Larsson trilogy, a few other autobiographies (Mickey Mantle, Pistol Pete, Lute Olson, Sandy Koufax, etc.), all of the short stories that Ernest Hemingway wrote and every book that James Patterson, John Sandford, Clive Cussler, Patricia Cornwell and John Grisham have ever written.

BTW, I have 50 Shades of Grey downloaded to the Nook for my wife but refuse to click on it.

I see one Ken Follett rec on the list but I'll add the century trilogy. Fall of Giants and Winter of the World are both out in paperback now. The trilogy follows multiple generations of five families from five different countries through the 20th century. First book centers on WWI, second on WWII. For what it's worth I read all the authors on your list so I imagine our tastes are similar and the Follett books, though massive in size (900+ pages) are among my favorites.

Cinematography : Theory and Practice by Blain Brown

I did just move to L.A.

a lot of great suggestions - one i will add

in the garden of beasts- erik larson

and the john adams book- agree with all the comments just an incredible read.

I give this one a big Tee thumbs up. I can't wait for the last book to be published which I believe is going to be another year yet. Follett brings these characters to life.

If you like historical non-fiction I recommend Last Days of the Incas by Kim MacQuarrie.

Fiction: The 100 year old man that climbed out a window and disappeared.

Non-fiction: Gettysburg: The last invasion
Someone in today's paper recommended the 100 year old man book. Sounds like a great read. Lots of great suggestions and books to look for. Can't wait.

This specific translation. Eastern philosophy. You can read any random passage in the book.

If you are into not-too-heavy fiction (which always is nice on vacation), I'd recommend Defending Jacob.

Has anybody read Toughness by Jay Bilas?

Tee, you just liked a question... If anyone has any insight on this one, I'd like to hear it as well.

My wife is into really heavy stuff whereas I need a break sometimes from that. As such, I am into the "At Home In Mitford Series" by Jan Karon. I'm nowhere near old enough to read these, but I really enjoy them.

Have you read the Hunger Games series? That's a quick read as well and the second movie is coming out in the fall, so you can prep for that. And that's awesome because it stars Jennifer Lawrence. Who should be our current board hottie, but that's another story altogether.

"The Night of the Gun" by David Carr---A memoir by a NY Times columnist about his battles with drugs---he writes about himself in the third person by interviewing people as an investigative reporter, rather than an auto-biographer. A great concept that feels very real to the reader.

"Moonwalking with Einstein" by Joshua Foer---The author seeks to find the most intelligent person alive and ends up discovering memory competitions. He is eventually drawn in to this world and becomes the US memory champion, mostly by concocting ridiculous and vulgar pneumonic aides.

Anyone know of any good books that are around the timeline 1910-14? I'd love to read a good non-fiction book around that time and how WW1 started that isn't based on the assignation on Ferdinand.
