It's almost not even fun laughing at them any more, but they really do make it too easy.
I think that the PSU community--or at least the the athletics part of it--has their collective head in the sand. An example, culled from the laxpower board, but covering much more than men's lacrosse:
To the posters who inexplicably seem to be rooting for the PSU lax program to take a step backwards and for Coach Tambroni to bolt as a result of the horrific Penn State scandal ( yes I know... You are not rooting for the demise of the program but just pointing out facts and realities... just like the rival coaches are calling Coach T's recruits to "just check in and see how they're doing"). I would point out to those posters as Coach T outlines in the IL article that the key factors prospective student athletes and their parents evaluate when choosing a school are probably right on - and the question then is what really has changed?
1. Academics ( Reputation, Rankings, Diversity of Majors and Course Offerings, Ability to attract employers to campus)
2. Lax Program ( Coaching Staff, Lax and & Athletic facilities, Schedule / Level of Competition)
3. College Experience ( Campus Aesthetics, Diverse Student body, DIverse Cultural opportunities, Vibrant social scene AND Big time college athletics)
What really has changed on this list as a result of the scandal and its aftermath? Penn State competes very well in all these areas and will continue to do so. Surely the Penn State brand has been temporarily tarnished, but the individuals who shirked their moral reponsibilities have been removed and purged from the community and will be held accountable for their inaction. The Penn State brand will recover, Fortune 500 companes like mine will still be flocking to State College this fall to recruit graduating seniors. If a big time college athletics atmosphere on Saturday afternoons is important to you, you will still have it. Football has not stopped, it will be different no doubt as PSU struggles to compete in the short term, but I would wager the game day atmosphere with 100,000+ people descending on Stae College will still be there. The PSU alumni base is a very loyal group and I see them banding together to help Bill O'Brien build a new and different legacy.
