...and Roberson has the tools to be a dominant rebounder.

Lydon isn't too far behind. Those guys sky for rebounds and have great hands.

I'm guessing that there will be a correlation between our better rebounding [factoring Coleman in here, as well, in addition to Gbinije / Cooney getting their fair share] and what will shape up to be a quality year.

Great post! When we have guys who can rebound in space out of the zone and track it in the offensive glass it makes a huge difference.

I'm extremely happy with what Lydon and Coleman have done on the glass so far. Roberson was a given coming in. Also Richardson has rebounded way above my expectations to go with very solid guard rebounding in Mike/Trev.

Watch out for Coleman he's getting closer every game. Give him6 more games and I'd bet we see some offensive presence as well.

Agree on Coleman. Almost measurable growth every game.

When you think about it, he barely played his first two seasons, even when he WAS healthy. Kid is just getting his sea legs.

He might never be a good scorer at the collegiate level, but he can still contribute by being a good rebounder, blocking shots, using fouls, etc. And these past two games suggest that he's figuring things out a bit. Encouraging development.

I'll help you out- he won't be a good scorer at the collegiate level.

Agree about the rebounding though. Keep getting 8-10 boards a game with maybe some blocks and put backs and I'll take it.

Seriously--if he scored 3-4 ppg, but was a guy who could get 5-6 rpg [or 7 - 8, like he has the last two games]?

Sign me up. I have a feeling he's going to round into form and be a solid role player. Nothing wrong with that. I'll take 3-4 ppg and 7 rpg for the rest of his career.

There's no reason to think that Coleman won't average 7 or 8 pts a game by seasons end. If he's healthy id be shocked he doesn't .

That would be amazing. I don't expect it, but I wouldn't count anything out, given that he's just getting his first taste of steady minutes.

My expectation is that it will only be a bucket or two / a free throw or two every game, but those other things will be there [rebounding, shot blocking, fouls, etc.].

Nothing wrong with that.

Agreed. Reminds me of a bigger more athletic Andre Hawkins.

I hope he can build enough offensive confidence and moves around the basket so that the guards have the trust to dump it down low for a dunk or very short shot from Coleman to open up the floor a bit more from the perimeter. If C could reach 6-8 a game or at least have that potential in the eyes of the opponent, that would be great, besides his defensive prowess.

We need to gang rebound on defense, especially against big teams, but this team could become a nightmare for opposing coaches on offense when we have 4 good three point shooters on the floor which means crazy spacing and if there's a miss, long rebounds, which allows Lydon and especially Roberson to hunt down boards.

The Coleman, Roberson, Lydon frontcourt might just be the best rebounding combo we put on the floor since 03. DC stays out of foul trouble and I think we see a lot of this line up with 'Chi getting some minutes at 2 spelling TC.

Lydon showing he can play the 5 against a real frontcourt was HUGE yesterday. He and G can both legitimately play 3 positions giving Coach the flexibility to stick with a short rotation. Just need Kaleb or Frankie to step up and be a viable backup at the 1 and things could get very special in a hurry.

Spot on. We have lots of players capable of playing more than one position, which will go a long way to help mask the lack of depth.

But the key to the season IMO is having one of those guards emerge as a true bench contributor. Need that to happen desperately, or Gbinije / Cooney will be gassed 2/3 of the way through the season. We need at least one of Joseph or Howard to step up and produce.

I'm ready to give Howard all the backup minutes and go baptism by fire. Joseph, as a Sophomore, still plays like a shook freshman. Never probes, always goes side to side which is probably helpful since he always turns it over if he attempts to go north/south. Had a pass yesterday that I knew was turnover before it even left his hand, tried throwing it through a UConn defender like he was a poltergeist.
