Our teams that made deepest runs always had an unsung player emerge...

during the season, or in the post-season. I only go back as far as the 89-90 team (my freshman year), so can't really comment on teams before that.

But if you look at the 3 final four teams since then:

1. 1996 - Lazarus Sims, Todd Burgan
2. 2003 - Hakim Warrick, Josh Pace
3. 2013 - Jerami Grant, Southerland

This year, no one emerged, no one got better during the season. Is that due to JB's use of the bench? Or just that the players were who we thought they were (to quote Dennis Green)? Hard to say but it seems like we make our best runs when a player emerges mid-year -- especially if it's a bench player. And that just didn't happen this year.
