The biggest problem is the staff overthinking and overanalyzing the hell out of everything. College football is complicated, but certainly not this complicated. Just take the edge off and stop trying so hard to be perfect. Throw the ball more, bring in a fullback to help chip block, and stop with these ridiculous formations on STs. Go back to being vanilla in certain areas of pass protection and STs and goalline playcalling. Shotgun is no good from the 1. Nassib is 230. Let him get over center and jam it in. If not, give Smith or AAM a short carry behind Cleveland up the gut. A sweep with Smith? Baffling.

Got 2 weeks off to sit back and not to think about a million things. Focus on the things you do very well (pass & blitz) and let them carry you. We didn't blitz at all in the 1st half. Why be conservative and let the paper boy dink and dunk on you? We also carried 33 times. About 10-12 too many in a game like this.

Love this post, and it bothered me so much that we went away from the pass. i thinkt hat last drive is more indicative of this team, personality wise. Spread it out, let Nassib throw the ball for good or for bad. heck if nothin is open, just tuck it away and run like your engulfed in flames and there's a puddle two yards ahead of you...

Agree with you 100 percent, blitz the @hit out of it, and sling the damn ball around the dome

Also to mention play calling on 3rd and long. Don't try to "catch" the D off-guard running a delayed handoff on 3rd & 10 unless you have USC-esque Reggie Bush running behind a Wisky line.

Kudos for reminding me about my favorite What play calls of the game... On second or third and long why are we running the ball? You only do that if to your point you have Reggie Bush or you are going to use 4 downs. Maybe Doug had a memory loss and thought he was still coaching the Saints with Reggie?

Agree about the shotgun inside the five yard line.

Agree. I don't care for the constant hurry up approach. To me, it appears gimmicky and desperate.

We've lost 8 straight to teams at our level of competition. If now is not the time to be gimmicky and desperate when is?

Nice post. I think the coaches are very analytical and balance every move and play they make, but would benefit somewhat from just playing the game "in the trenches" with a KISS mentality.

Good post, have been thinking the same thing. When we were running on 3rd and long, I kept thinking of the scene in Airplane. Should we throw? "No, that's just what they'll expect us to do."

Two weeks to do a bunch of things. #1 is not to wind up tight and become brittle as a team. Last night sounded like a game where a team that is scared of failure ends up hurting itself.

The offensive line should look very different when Pugh gets back. Two weeks to develop chemistry there. I would say pick either Foy or Trudo and stick with him, get down in the trenches and work the hell out of him, teach him what he needs to know. Audition over, we need 5 OL who will play all the snaps together as a unit.

I don't know what you can do with LB. If we don't have a real MLB we don't, and it is what it is.

Our MLB last year was 2nd team all conference. I think he is still on the team.

Certainly not after 'we've officially turned the corner.' ;)

I think at this point in the season will show us what kind of team chemistry we have and who, if any, our leaders are. I think the offseason was a good experience for the team. We are staring at 1-3, with a week off before a showdown with Pitt. This will show how much this team can stick together, and provides an extremely challenging task for the staff. I think we DO have the leaders, but now is their time to keep everyone tight and focused on each game, one by one.

I am just as disappointed as you all, if not more based on my loyal support of DM. I am still excited for our next game and looking forward to being there.

Me too. This'll be my one game this year. Hope they iron some things out and bring it.
