Pace Postgame

I think they showed some pride.
But they have to play like that from the start against the real teams on our schedule, or this team is going to get its butt kicked.

I'm afraid that this is going to be a team with inconsistent effort, and that is probably going to sink our season. Hate to say that already, because the parts are here for a very good team. But they can't take a month to figure out how to play together. We'll be done for the season by then.

What I'd like to hear is that Melo goes into the locker room after the game and cusses those guys out. "If you think you are going to make the league, YOU HAVE TO PLAY HARD ALL THE TIME. No shortcuts. You all have to play much, much harder."

I have more concerns with our guards and wings than I do with our four bigs. I thought the bigs played well tonight. Betsy was shut out tonight and George didn’t score from the field. I thought tonight was the best I’ve seen Donnie play. He attracted the basket and didn’t just settle from the perimeter. Impressed with Freeman and Kyle’s passing. They made some excellent passes tonight. I can live with ten turnovers, but you shouldn’t get out-rebounded by Pace. We did turn them over 23 times. The lefty point guard is a good defensive player and handles it ok. He’s better than I thought. He can handle himself ok.

A lot to be concerned about here.
-White was clearly the high point of the evening. Showed considerably more intensity and effort than any other player on the roster. The two three-pointers were a bonus and were unexpected.
-Donnie also played hard. He seemed to be the leader on the court. Would like to see him be more aggressive going to the basket, but I am somewhat concerned that he’s not as explosive athletically as we would’ve hoped.
-we didn’t seem to be running any type of offense. It was the same garbage we saw last year where there was a lot of dribbling and then throwing it to a big man on the perimeter, where he was not in a position to do anything constructive.
-defense was not very good for most of the game either. Same stuff from JJ letting guys dribble to their dominant hand and go right by him. Also, his last two free throws were two of the worst hitch ones we’ve ever seen from him, which says a lot.
-I can’t believe out of all the centers in the country we had to get the one who shoots free throws like Kyle does. Not to mention he did not offer any rim protection.
-George was surprisingly out of control tonight. Betsey was not trying to do anything except fire up threes. Kiyan did not have a good shooting night, but he looked comfortable out there and he will help.
-After an invisible first half Kingz was pretty smooth in the second half. George has to get him the ball.
-I want this team to be good so badly. But that first half felt like more of the same that We have seen the last few years.

The last 10 minutes were what we were expecting from this team.

Kingz and Kiyan both showed flashes of impressive skill sets (as far as scoring).

Souare brought energy

White was everything we hoped for. Kyle did just what was expected on offense. Still would like to see more on defense as a rim protector (Freeman too)

Betseys stroke looked so smooth the other day and then he disappeared today.

Through two games, George has been a disappointment as far as getting in the paint and setting people up.

One concern that I had today is we played a lot of five out and still struggled to get to the basket in those sets. We did better getting to the hoop when we weren’t running that action.

Biggest concerns going forward would have to be rim protection and free throws.

We sucked early because we didn’t play hard. Looked like we thought we could go through the motions. George has to play better and I think he will. Not worried about Kiyan, Kingz, Donnie, and George at the line long term, but everyone else is and will be terrible there.

WTAF is that bizarre spasm/hitch/seizure that JJ does during his foul “shot”??!!

Absolutely ridiculous.

We have several of the absolute worst FT shooting “form” players in history.
That’s…. something.

Highly concerned with George

Honestly, takeaways. Did I overreact in the game thread, probably. We play like crap and Pace looked really good for D2 and we still won by double digits. And we subbed probably differently than we would’ve.
Could be a case of knowing you can play hard for 5 to 10 minutes and still win easily

14 out of 28 free throws. Not acceptable at any level. Let's hope because it's their first game in the dome.

As long as Red and JJ are the leaders of the program they aren’t going anywhere.

I think Wildhack would be well within his rights to fire red tonight. The Hurley video is a perfect example, I can’t stand UConn or him, but you can’t say he and his teams don’t give max effort. I don’t think I could say that in a single game about us since Red took over

It genuinely caused me physically cringe, with that straight on camera view of the 2nd FT of his final time at the line… I’ve never ever experienced that before.
