If you take any player on this year’s roster and put him on a Syracuse team from 2008-2014, realistically how many of these guys are getting meaningful minutes or any minutes at all?

Definitely Battle
MAYBE Brissett

Battle and that is it.

Brissett is not better than freshman Joseph or Fair and they came off the bench. He’d be getting 5 points and 4 boards in 13 mpg as the 7th-8th man on most of those Cuse teams.

Howard could be first guard off the bench on some of the teams(not 2012 or 2011, maybe not 2010 either.

Sidibe/Chukwu could maybe be backup C in 2011(Fab and Keita we’re both freshmen) or one of the years when Coleman was backup and not healthy.

after tonites shooting performance i found this stat interesting

SU all-time TEAM Field Goal Pct.
------------------------------------------------
.543 1988-89 (1,334-2,456, 38 games)
.539 1979-80 (1,025-1,902, 30 games)
.534 1978-79 (1,052-1,970, 30 games)
.532 1980-81 (1,014-1,904, 34 games)
.529 1982-83 (1,019-1,926, 31 games)

1978-83 ruled ! (and yeah i get the 3 point thing)

The one thing I believe that I get the feeling many on this board do not, is that Howard is absolutely every bit the player Triche was. Yes, Triche played on better teams, but his per 40 numbers are almost identical to Frank's and both are solid on defense. The difference is you've got Frank being asked to be the primary ball handler (Triche never was, not even as a frosh when he started at PG but Jardine was the guy 20 mpg and at crunch time) AND the no. 2 offensive option (Love to see Brissett be this guy but the efficiency numbers are brutal).

The only time Triche was asked to handle anything close to that load was as a senior when he was asked to play just under 34 mpg (still not what Frank is being asked to do). Even then, Fair was the go-to guy essentially and you also had southerland chipping in 13 and MCW scoring 11 and dishing out a ton of assists. And while his scoring numbers were roughly equivalent (16.1 for Triche and 16.6 for Frank), his 3-point shooting was brutal (<29%), and he turned the ball over a TON for a 2-guard (3.2 per 40 vs. 4.2 per 40 for frank as the primary ball handler).

Not really arguing Howard was better, but those guys are almost identical in my mind. Triche doesn't make this team any better.

It’s amazing that 89 did that in that era.

good call. crunch time being the key word used . closing minutes in close games it was almost always scoop. (and triche was clutch at the line).

I disagree and agree. Some guys getting extended minutes certainly would have been buried on at least most if not all of those teams -- Moyer/Dolezaj). But I think the point is (and I'm sure this is basically your point) more the role these guys would be playing. Brissett is a better prospect, IMO, than Fair or Southerland. They are slightly different players and I loved Fair, but regardless of how you'd rank them, the point is that Fair played a solid but much more reduced role on the 10-11 team, and was a much more integral part of the rotation in 11-12, but still came off the bench before becoming a full-time starter in 12-13. Southerland was never really a full-time starter.

Chuckwu and Sidibe are pretty solid players. Sidibe has a chance, IMO, to be one of our better two-way centers. Chuckwu is limited but solid generally. Not sure where they fit in during the specified time frame, but I don't think we're losing b/c of them.

Frank is a perfectly solid part of a three-guard rotation ... except we really only have a two-guard rotation.

Battle is a good one, as you point out.

But the point is Frank and Brissett are being asked to do more than you'd like them to have to do, ideally, and Moyer and Dolezaj each have had nice moments but probably aren't really ready to play at an elite level (which is what the 08-14 period was).

How many of past years studs had to deal with a team that had no 3rd year players and minimal second?

Howard has some poor performances, and i was unable to watch tonights game, but you guys expect far too much sometimes and don’t take all things into consideration.
