Just wanted to point out, watching effective College Basketball teams around the country, that we're going to have be very patient with Red or any coach we brought on to replace Boeheim.

Basically, recruiting for the zone for a decade has set this program back a long time. Yes, it led to some short-term fun seasons, and that's great, but the fundamentals of the program are broken. We don't have "basketball players" we have plug-ins.

The only real question would be if the Autry hire slows down progress on the transition by sticking to too many of the prevailing principles, we shall see.

But the point is we're going to have be very patient because we have a front-line designed and recruited to cover wings, not play basketball.

It's also been 5 games - the last 2 came against programs that are operating essentially at the "peak of their powers." There have certainly been some concerning trends but the program wasn't going to be turned around in one offseason. The goal for this year remains the same - get back to the tournament and nothing thus far has changed that.

Learn from the last two games and adjust. I'm hoping we start playing faster and playing to our depth - press or 3/4 pressure to make the opposition work harder and force more turnovers.

Thinking of Georgia Tech football.

The transition doesn't need to take long. It's not like these specific players were running zone for 20 years just because JB was. Most of the roster is made up of sophomores and transfers.

If you're saying we need to be patient while Red figures out how to run his own program, that's a different discussion.

Agreed. I think we wait until February and see where we're at...

That's more than enough time to see progression in style of play and teamwork... even if it's not yielding as many wins as we would like and is a work in progress...

If things are still the same hot mess as now with no evidence of progression, I'll start worrying at that point.

I think a concern is that helping coach a zone only team for 20? years has ruined Red's understanding of a successful MTM defense - not sure that is true but it may be.

All these kids played man in hs and aau some better than others and at varying qaulity. But this shouldn't be a foreign language to them.
AMEN. ever see zone D being played on blacktop ? you teach the zone and switch D'S when necessary. they are not mutually exclusive as JB insisted for years.
