I think the way you can look at Paul is the way Iowa stuck with Kirk Ferentz. Kirk had some big seasons at Iowa and some leaner ones where they won 4-5 games. The institutional comfort in Ferentz and having the backing from the Belichicks of the world have protected him in a big way.

If Crouthamel had hung on for another 4-5 years Paul gets the maximum amount of time to right the ship. Syracuse got seduced by the SEC-ization of once a coach goes bad it's only his fault and he needs to be replaced. Sometimes it's more complicated than that.

He's STILL coaching into his 70s is because he's respected in a business of real duplicitous folks. He took a chance on a last chance guy in Ed Orgeron. He gave the CT mafia (Addazio) a chance to be successful at a higher level.

We screwed up the entire Pasqualoni transition and the school still paying for it. Dino was handed a pile of crap once he showed up. Time will tell if he can truly turn it around into a school with a sustainable program.
