Rutgers finished 7-3 and was ranked 25th in at least one poll.

Nebraska was #1 in the country, undefeated when we played them.  They won the B8 and finished 4th in the country in the final AP poll.

Florida won the SEC, was undefeated in conference play and finished 3rd in the final AP poll.

West Virginia finished 8-4, and was ranked in at least one poll at the end of the season.

Penn State was 19th when we played them but also got beat up by a tough schedule and finished 6-5.

Freaking Army was coached by Jim Young back then and was on a big high.  They ended up 8-3-1 and won the Cherry Bowl against Michigan State.  We would follow them there the following season.

Pitt only finished 3-7 but they had Ironhead Heyward, Teryl Austin and Chris Doleman.

Even Navy was good.  They finished 4-6-1.  Bill Byrne was a fine QB and their RB was Napoleon McCallum.  He was hurt most of 1984 or they surely would have also had a winning record.

And the season ended with BC, who had Flutie in his senior year.  They finished 10-2,  5th in the final AP poll and Doug won the Heisman.

So we played 3 of the top 5 teams in the country, Maryland finished 12th, and WVU and Rutgers were border line top 25 teams.  Penn State was also ranked most of the season and Army was just outside the top 25.
