UK's Calipari wants SEC tourney moved to fall

Sure there is some credence in the idea that the conference season should mean more than a conference tourney as far as the auto-bid is concerned, but it sounds like Cal is just whiny.

How about this... win more quality games and you'll get a better seed in March.

I can't believe I'm saying this about a Cal thought...but I totally love this idea. It's a fun way to unofficially kick off the conference season. Then, starting in Dec/Jan, the winner of the conference earns the automatic bid, which makes the regular season games that much more meaningful.

I strongly hope more people get behind this thought. Ultimately, I guess ESPN will decide if it flies, and I suspect they will not go for it.

No way they will move conference tournaments to the fall where football is king and rules tv air time.

I have no problem if they want to move the SEC tournament to November. It's a pretty crappy tourney anyway. But, removing the auto-qualifier would probably hurt attendance from any school not named Kentucky.

Why would any school want this especially if they have a "new" team that hasn't played together?

I'm not sure he's whining that much, especially since he won the conference tournament this year.

I think the biggest problem for the SEC is they do the tournament on Sunday afternoon.

To add to this, the whole point of March Madness is the HOPE that an underachieving team puts together a run and earns themselves a bid.
It's Cinderella playing out to a nationwide audience. The auto-bid is what enables this, and with the at-large bids available, if a team's good enough they'll usually get in.
