only thing that matters in this day and age if ncaa tourney. would have been nice and not that we didnt try, but winning conf tourney is meaningless

paraphrasing

can't disagree

Not that we did not try? Apparently he missed the first half of the game because it was pretty clear we were not trying.

they played that comment on espnu.

So the C-USA, er, BET championship game tomorrow doesn't matter?

It probably helps our chances in the big dance. I never want to lose, but there are things to be gained from the experience.

maybe it worked for uconn last year (as well as their friendly bracket) but every year we have won or made it to the title game in the past decade has ended somewhat dissapointingly.. last year as well in the semis..but point is it doesnt matter.

Thought with the substitution patterns yesterday, we were really looking for an excuse not to play tonight.

Really hope Scoop/Joseph/Fair wake up for the tournament. They have been atrocious the last two games.

I've been a little surprised all year at the number of times JB has had to get on the seniors. I sort of expected it with Scoop because he's Scoop. But KJ has been distant at times and seemingly not on the same page with JB. All season I've been telling myself I'm nit-picking with this observation so I always let it go.

Well, now it's the tournament. I hope they lock in.

**Arinze nodding his head in agreement**

I don't think so. He shouldn't, if you listen to the context of what he said.

I hope you are right. I haven't seen it in context yet. The problem is that it won't be played in context, and even though it's true it doesn't come across well.

I guess he's changed his opinion since his BE Tourney post-loss chair throwing days in the 80's.

I'm pretty sure JB regrets making that comment.
Doubt it. I get it, some people love the BET and take pride in conference titles. I hear its a lot of fun. Some don't care. You are judged by how you do in the NCAA. That is just a fact.

If we just got rid of conference tournaments we could have a 256 team NCAA tourney.

I agree that it's true. It's just something you say backstage off the record unless you want to raise eyebrows. If another coach said the same thing (actually, I haven't even heard it in context yet) I might think he was being overly defensive.

If JB was asked what he told his team, then I think this is definitely something you tell the team because it's true and you want the team to move on right away and get focused on the real deal immediately.

Well, Calipari said the same thing and we lambast him.

So just go 20-10 in the regular season and finish seventh in the conference. Why bother with the regular season. It's meaningless, too.

Like UConn basically did last year? Let's face it college basketball IS a one month season now, the exhibition season just ended. the regular season is meaningless. the conference tourneys are meaningless. because let's face it, if we won the Big East and then flamed out in the Sweet 16, nobody on this board is going to say "yeah, disappointing but still a successful season because we won the Big East championship".

All we learned today is if a team shoot 80% from 3 point line in the first half, we'll probably lose. (Like Kansas did in 2003, BTW). BFD, pretty sure that applies to every team.
