He has a hard time getting off blocks. Great nose for football but sometimes can’t get there. I seen him a ton of times be at the hole or close and he is too into the lineman who is blocking him and back goes right bye him. He is never gonna be a Conley type who could hand chuck a lineman and move the guy to make the play. He is too small. Dip and rip is what I think but I ain’t lb coach either. What the hell does Mikel Jones have to do to get first or second team recognition? the kid had a great season in horrible circumstances

I do agree. I just think he needs a few different techniques or something. He is there but just missing. I also think if we use wax and Thompson a bit more that they seem to be more downhill guys naturally and I see Jones getting there a bit more with them. Dan always said if ur gonna get jammed up bye a ol guy do it at line of scrimmage. Maybe u don’t make tackle but ur gap is covered. If we could get Cantin more downhill we could be really good at lb.Yeah I agree, Mikel isn’t a 1st team or 2nd team…… YET from what we have seen so far.
But that doesn’t mean we don’t see him get to that level this season. Off-season is time for big progressions and if he takes it seriously, which I’m sure he will, we could see a breakout season for Mikel Jones.
