This loss is on our guards. 100%
We never rebound against them but our guards were bad. It is tough to be the PG and get good shots.
Awful offensive performance.

Pittsburgh destroys us. Joke all you want about Dixon's hair and their final fours they don't have, but the fact is in two games against us this year they outplayed and outcoached us down the last 5 minutes of each game.

Not gonna lie I used to be "well they've been better most years" guy from '04-09. Well I think we've reached a sufficient sample now. It's just pathetic and embarrassing at this point that we cannot beat this dogcrap team.

We always get "out toughed" by Pitt. That's the difference. For us to beat Dixon we need a big that would force Pitt to have to double inside. If we could own the boards against them, the games would be different.

Pitt carves up the zone like no other. I'm always dumbfounded how Pitt struggles against Wake and VaTech but owns us year after year. Without Lydon we lose by 25. DC was our 2nd best player tonight (besdies a few nice passes from Frank and Mali). But you're right, this is 100% on our guards. They were putrid.

It's really getting tiresome watching Syracuse teams that just can't score. It's not just this season. It's been several seasons in a row. Either recruiting or scheme needs to be re-thought.

Exactly! I despise Dixon as much as anyone, but he is now 14-6 against JB...7-2 in the Dome.

Not sure the carving up of the zone today was as bad as the offensive rebounding. Pitt scored just way too many points off 2nd and 3rd tries. Tough when you get out rebounded 2 to 1 during the entire game. Totally agree our guards cost us big time today.

Meh. We have no post game. None. Everyone should be able to shut us down. We lack at two areas, post offense and point. Both should be better next year. We are a sea of misfit toys this year.
I agree, we are the sea of misfit toys this year. But...the thing about that is bball is a game of matchups and with our 2-3 misfit toys some games the matchups go OUR way- ie Ucon, tex am, duk, nd (altho no jackson), fla st. But many games the matchups go dead against us- ie unc , miami, ul, pitt, uva. Overall if we make ncaa, we need to get favorable matchups to have any chance to make 2nd weekend imo

Our guards cost us because they were not Herculean today. We have no inside game to keep teams off the boards and off our shooters.
On one hand you are correct, but on the other hand, when TC and Mal go 2-19, you can not blame that mostly on the lack of low post offense. That is simply very very poor shooting. There were some rushed andor off balance shots (which you cant automatically blame on our lack of low post) but there was also missed open shots. Even w a poor low post offense, DC was still more effective on offense than those other 2 today

I picture Dixon walking into practice with a cup of coffee and yawning before talking about the Syracuse game. He's got beating SU down to such a fine art he doesn't spend more than 10 minutes taking about the game plan before they start practice.

IDK Jake, I know you're supremely respected on this board, but I've seen similar results with Flynn, Triche, MCW, Gmac, waiters, and Devo playing guard. We are a guard oriented program that struggles against Pitts physicality. It's the same story every year. I'm sick of it.

Not sure we needed Herculean stuff today. Cooney, Malachi and G to a lesser extent just couldn't hit anything. If they were merely below average as opposed to sucktacular, we might have competed better.

I bet they think they didn't even play well (which they didn't) and are laughing their way on the bus trip back to Pittsburgh. me.

So all those other teams that beat Pitt have a PG and a low-post offense? I'm pretty sure it doesn't require a perfectly constructed team to beat Dixon. But with our system, apparently that's what it takes.
