The debates used to be irrelevant. Unfortunately this is a new era, where fans and donors are being asked directly by the university to contribute to funds that go straight to paying players. NIL effectively has no salary cap; decisions on the field this year impact the feelings of fans and donors and thus the size of next year's payroll. In this case, I do not know if that puts positive, negative, or neutral pressure on Rickie playing but it's not an effect we can just write off.

Anyway, we do agree that Fran is playing to win. I just don't know if it's clear to me if he's playing to win [I]right now[/I] or if he's working towards a better future. That can be a short term future as well. When I say "there may be things we don't know" that's not limited to bad things. Another example might be "Rickie's talent in practice is considerably further along than we realize and he's due to prove us all wrong at any moment now."
