I have been reading up on play calling so as to learn from those who know infinitely more than I (almost everyone) and have learned a few things I didn't know before (which for me is not difficult).

One of the things I learned were the 4 factors most indicative of victory.

Take s shot at ranking the metrics of victory in order of importance.

• Explosive plays (16+ on passes or 12+ on rushes)
• Net Turnovers
• Red Zone scoring
• 1st Down gain of 4 or more yards

Interestingly, explosive plays has been #1 in the NFL a couple of times.

As for 4+ gains on 1st downs, apparently the leading team achieves this only 45% of the time! Quick passes, slants, side outs etc have a 65% to 75% success rate, which is what gave birth to the Bill Walsh West Coast type offense.

GMAC spends a lot of time visiting NFL teams and I think he is influenced by these things and that is why we saw so many bubble screens. As we get better receivers, I think we will see more of the quick game including slants and TE passes.

IMO we saw a lot of runs on first down because I think he thought it was our best chance to get the 4+ yards. As he gets more confidence in Hunt I think we will see more games like BC.
