Play calling trend

I looked at the play-by-play of the FSU game and noticed that we ran the ball almost every 1st down. Mostly with Tucker, with Shrader running it a few times. Of the 3 times we started the drive with a vertical throw, we scored 2 TD's and the third we basically ran out of time with the poor clock management, but were on track to score.
I hope the offense expands where we mix in some more 1st down throws. I don't need bombs, just some short slants behind the backers who are attacking the run game to keep them honest.
Would also love some more short, efficient passes on 3rd and long instead of the long passes we've favored in those situations. Once we pull together more 1st downs, I feel more optimistic we'll be able to punch it in with Shrader at QB.

Hard to tell if the long passes are the call or the read by the QB.

I'd rather run the ball on 1st down than 2nd down, but I agree. More PA on 1st down would be great.

Completely agree. DB has seemed to be singularly focused on the run. Would love an even split of run and pass. Feel it would open bigger runs for tucker overall. Let GS throw the short to intermediate routes.
personally never like so many deep balls. Felt we missed a lot more than we made. Hit the receiver in space and let him pick up additional yards. Let’s keep the D guessing.

Dino's argument will be that he needs to know how the D is going to play the run to see how to attack it.

I don't think it means running the ball at 2 YPC for 3 drives to figure that out.

Agreed. A 5 yard pass on first down is still a good play. I don't need 20+ yard passes all the time. Move the chains however you can, gas the defense and then the big plays will open up.

Poor 3rd down % because 1st down was a bust. 5 yards on 1st down is good no matter how you get it.
