This year's player regression is really something. I haven't seen anything like it since becoming a diehard cuse fan 38 years ago. Sure, we've had a player here and there but we currently have 3 examples in Bell, Moore, and Cuffe. Bell's issues started right from the jump of the season while Moore and Cuffe's issues began right after periods where they were playing really well.

Making it even worse, what player can you possibly say has improved this year? The closest I can come up with is maybe Eddie. The last 3 games he's been on a tear; let's see if that continues. Everyone else has stayed the same or gotten worse over the course of the season. That's something.

Maliq did last year.
He left.

Yeah it says a lot about the coaching staff.

I miss the days where our players would have huge freshman to sophomore jumps. Players like Waiters, Fair, MCW, Jerami Grant, Fab Melo, etc…all players that either didn’t get a lot of time their freshman year or weren’t killing it. Then Sophomore year were studs and left early. Or even Rakeem Christmas who was a little above average his first 3 years then senior year was an all around stud.

There is not a single aspect of the game that this staff seems to be even competent at. When the only reason anyone can cite for bringing them back for another year is that ‘we don’t have enough money to pay them to leave…‘ that’s quite an indictment.

Those were all NBA level players, too.

In fact that starting 5 would beat our current team like 90-40.

Taylor has improved and he really could have improved if he got Carlos’ minutes.
He's an interesting one. He had a really good four game stretch in the middle of the season. However, other than that, he's been very spotty. Although, to be fair, he is contributing more offensively on average than he did early in the season.

Those years are over. Anyone any good is no longer going to wait to play. I guarantee Waiters would have been gone today. MCW and Fab Melo too. The days of developing players is over. Coaches are not going to wait before they run off players either. It’s a whole new world. Coaches are going to have to build a new team every year. Coaches who succeed will have to be great communicators and teachers. They have no time to waste. I’m not sure Red can do either. You better recruit guys who are hard nosed and good listeners if you want to win.

Other teams are managing. JP Estrella as just one example, was a top-50 recruit, didn’t play as a frosh at Tenn but went back for a sophomore year where he didn’t get many minutes until he had an injury.

Freeman and Mintz were mid 1st round on every mock until Autry coached them. It's bad.

I think this years teams were probably inevitably mismatched parts I wish Autry no ill will but this is unacceptable and needs to end in a few weeks.

None whatsoever.

I agree with your point overall.
You must be saying the regression is happening within the season not year to year.
Bells regression from last year is the worst I remember.
Cuffes playing time has been so spotty and inconsistent that is clearly a failure on the coaching staff.
Moore is a Fresh and he may be very streaky. He had a couple good scoring games in blowouts...thats about it.
Taylor looks better.
Carlos looks better now that he is being used more properly.
Im done here, its a mess there is not enough desire to win.

Chris has struggled without Gmac. Thats for certain
Will be interesting to see how he does at his next stop. Has to be somewhere on the West Coast right?

I kept thinking back last season of Ewing coaching GT and I thought at the time how awful that situation was...we are almost there with Red. Judging from the pressers and interviews Ewing was not a good communicator, answers seem to be all over the place, scrambled and hollow. Even if you have the knowledge if you can't communicate it to the kids and motivate them to play as a team, its useless. Not that I am saying Red is a poor communicator but judging from his pressers he seems a bit of a laid back low energy lacking confidence struggling to find words kind of person, could be the losing is taking a tow on him or is this his normal demeanor? Sad to see as he was great as a player.

and yet some insist that ncaabb is as good as it always has been and we're just mad bc we arent good...lol

if the sport doesnt have roster continuity from year to year and individual teams cant develop players...the level of the sport will drop.

we've traded away the quality of the product for player compensation...but it didnt have to be that way. ncaa couldve just compensated players without gutting the way things are done, imo
