It occurred to me, and I'm sure has already been discussed, that in the glory years of the Ben Schwartzwalder era - when the Orange was still basking in the glory of the 1959 NC year - when Manley was built and when our recruiting was top notch - we played in NYC on a regular basis.

We played Army, Notre Dame and Pitt in Yankee Stadium and Shea Stadium - I recall Floyd Little having a big day against Pitt in the Mets' stadium.

So, once again, things haven't really changed in forty to fifty years, right?

I remember my Dad going down to NYC to see Syracuse play. I was a little too young for the weekend he had planned. What I don't remember is anyone being upset with the concept. It was more a sense of pride that the name "Syracuse" was being spread across the country through the (arguable) epicenter of the world. I think it's fantastic that we are getting back to that concept. I'm looking forward to my Syracuse to the City drive in September.

I do not believe that it is impossible to both bring great games to the Dome and a national game to the City. I'm all in on growing our brand nationally.

It's a matter of too much.

One game every two years, in a made for TV match up is too much? Especially when we need to rebuild the name for viewership? I'm not slamming you, Bees, but sincerely asking, "what is acceptable?"

Please provide justification for your response as I have not seen any justification for not playing these games other than we lose a home game to the Meadowlands. I understand the local fan has issues traveling to NYC for the games, but one game every other year to play in front of Syracuse alumni, potential students and recruits, and fans in NYC, LI, Northern Jersey seems like a good thing. Are we losing big money? Are we losing recruits? Are we losing ticket sales/season ticket sales? Honestly, I have not seen figures so I am sincerely asking for information and reason, not attempting to slam or attack anyone.

I will concede that living away from Syracuse may have some influence on my opinion, but in my defense, I drove 340 miles for a game against Tulane.

I think that the only way Syracuse can maximize its football potential is to become New York's team, and the only way to do that is to play in NYC (or within the NYC TV market) every year.

8 hours and 503 miles for me, and it'll be 485 miles to Tampa this fall.

I understand the "fear" of the local community, though. That is, that *all* of the bigger name OOC "home" games will take place away from home. Until there's proof that some of these games will be played in the Dome, that feeling will always exist.

I want to go to the South Florida game, but my girls have a tournament that weekend, gotta be a good dad. Besides, they will be leaving me too soon enough for college, so I might as well enjoy them now.

We will have FSU and Clemson in the Dome every other year, VATech, GATech and Miami periodically. PSU is slated for the Dome. USC was slated for the Dome and Notre Dame just played in the Dome. I understand the worry about getting big name teams in the Dome, too, but I am more optimistic in that historically we have had major teams in the Dome and it is a tough place to win when Syracuse is good. Plus, I also optimistic that once our winning ways return, we will need a larger stadium.

Makes you wonder why they stopped if it was such a home run.

Makes me think that SU might not have tanked in the late 60s and 70s if they had continued them.

Hmmmmm... you may have something there. A little national exposure can't hurt...
