This year’s field for the Section III playoffs: The number before the school is their seedings. Afterward I have the won-loss record, the points for an against, the rankings by the New York State Sports Writer’s Association and by Max Preps, which has a state ranking and a national ranking, Then comes the Post Standard’s ranking within the section- they just rank large schools (A + AA) and small schools (B-C-D), and finally the number of Sectional titles the school has won. Then I posted all the confrontations between the teams in the field. QUARTERFINALS CLASS AA 1- Cicero-North Syracuse 7-0 (367-72) NYSSWA #6 MaxPreps 1/448 PS# 1 Titles: none 8- Christian Brothers Academy 5-2 (211-171) NYSSWA HM (Honorable Mention) MaxPreps 86/3535 PS# 6 Titles:11 5- Utica Proctor 4-3 (208-177) NYSSWA HM MaxPreps 73/3252 PS# 8 Titles: none 4- Corcoran 6-1 (264-108) NYSSWA HM MaxPreps 42/2235 PS# 4 Titles: 6 3- Baldwinsville 6-1 (242-141) NYSSWA #22 MaxPreps 23/1633 PS# 2 Titles: 4 6- Fayetteville-Manlius 4-3 (257-218) NYSSWA HM MaxPreps 112/4355 PS# 9 Titles: 2 7- Liverpool 3-4 (131-164) NYSSWA UR (unranked) MaxPreps 110/4276 PS- unranked Titles: 7 2- Central Square 6-1 (220-126) NYSSWA HM MaxPreps 57/2817 PS#5 Titles: 1 Comments: It’s nervous time for us CNS graduates. Per that MaxPreps rating we are favored to do two things we’ve never done before: win the section and then win the state. We came close a decade ago when we scored with a minute left vs. West Genesee only to have them score on about the last play to win the section, (with 2 losses) and then go on to win the states. We have dominated every opponent all year – but that means we’ve never had to pull a close game out of the fire. Our kicking game is the one questionable area of the team but that could matter if somebody can stay in the game with us. We open with CBA, who beat us in the sectional finals last year and are usually the best team in the section. They’ve had significant injury problems but they are just the type of team that could spoil somebody else’s beautiful season in a down year. We did beat B’Ville, who competed very well for a half. We haven’t played Corcoran or Central Square yet and we might have to play both of them. if we get past all of them we’ll take on some state powerhouses we could only imagine beating in past eyars. Now we’ll have to actually do it! My Halloween face will not be an act. CNS has beaten Liverpool 41-0, Baldwinsville 67-31 and Utica Proctor 53-14 Corcoran beat CBA 41-14 and FM 41-22 Baldwinsville beat Utica Proctor 35-22 and Liverpool 35-7 Fayetteville-Manlius beat CBA 49-35 CBA beat central Square 27-25 Utica Proctor beat Liverpool 24-22 Central Square beat Corcoran 25-16. CLASS A 1- 4- 3- 2- Comments: Class A will play one more week of their regular season and then go straight to semi-final play. The brackets will be announced after this week’s games. Tight now Indian River is 6-0, East Syracuse-Minoa 5-1-, Whitesboro and Jamesville-Dewitt 4-2 in conference with Carthage at 4-3. Indian River plays Whitesboro. Carthage plays ES-M. J-D Plays 1-6 Watertown CLASS B 1- Cazenovia 7-0 (252-77) NYSSWA #5 MaxPreps 35/2029 PS# 2 Titles: 11 8- Westhill 3-4 (90-129) NYSSWA UR MaxPreps 398/10371 PS unranked Titles: 4 5- Utica-Notre Dame 5-2 (179-155) NYSSWA # MaxPreps 153/5383 PS unranked Titles: 7 4- Marcellus 6-1 (154-85) NYSSWA #24 MaxPreps 208/6813 PS# 9 Titles: none 3- Vernon-Verona-Sherrill 6-1 (199-71) NYSSWA #18 MaxPreps 76/3416 PS unranked 8Titles: 2 6- Chittenango 4-3 (136-129) NYSSWA HM MaxPreps 289/8497 PS unranked Titles: 3 7- Mexico 3-3 (136-141) NYSSWA UR MaxPreps 185/6183 PS unranked Titles: none 2- Homer 7-0 (276-61) NYSSWA #3 MaxPreps 90/3627 PS# 1 Titles: 4 Comments: This one seems all about perennial powerhouses Cazenovia and Homer, although VVS and Marcellus look good enough to make some noise. Cazenovia beat Mexico 28-7, VVS 19-7 and Utica Notre Dame 41-7 Homer beat Westhill 40-0, Marcellus 35-12 and Chittenango 35-14 VVS beat Utica-Notre Dame 39-21 and Mexico 21-7 Marcellus beat Westhill 13-6 and Chittenango 15-10 Chittenango beat Westhill 21-13 Utica Notre Dame beat Mexico 34-12 CLASS C 1- General Brown 7-0 (380-83) NYSSWA #2 MaxPreps 140/5090 PS #3 Titles: 6 8- Southern Hills 4-3 (206-183) NYSSWA UR MaxPreps 410/10648 PS unranked Titles: none (Lafayette won a small school poll title in 1970) 5- Sherburne-Earlville 5-2 (214-146) NYSSWA HM MaxPreps 280/8353 PS unranked Titles: none 4- Jordan-Elbridge 5-2 (256-139) NYSSWA HM MaxPreps 330/9267 PS unranked Titles: none 3- Canastota 7-0 (379-38) NYSSWA #3 MaxPreps 118/4520 PS #4 Titles: none 6- Thousand Islands 6-1 (204-92) NYSSWA #16 MaxPreps 294/8560 PSA unranked Titles: none 7- Little Falls 4-3 (133-129) NYSSWA HM MaxPreps 404/10499 PS unranked Titles: none 2- Skaneateles 7-1 (360-108) NYSSWA #8 MaxPreps 160/5530 PS #5 Titles: 2 Comments: (”Southern Hills” is a combined team representing Lafayette, Tully and Fabius-Pompey.) Six of the eight teams have never won a sectional title before. They will have to go through the top two seeds, who have, to do it now. Canastota clearly belongs with those two in the top group and they may be the best team of all. Canastota beat Sherburne-Earlville 34-19 and Little Falls 68-6 Skaneateles beat Southern Hills 42-13 and Jordan-Elbridge 59-13 General Brown beat Thousand Islands 41-7 Jordan-Elbridge beat Southern Hills 41-24 Sherburne-Earlville beat Little Falls 13-6 CLASS D 1- Bishop Ludden 7-0 (266-121) NYSSWA #9 MaxPreps189/6300 PS #6 Titles: 2 8- Waterville 2-5 (175-252) NYSSWA UR MaxPreps 512/12558 PS# Titles: none 5- Mount Markham 6-1 (232-152) NYSSWA #18 MaxPreps 252/7852 PS# Titles: 3 4- Sauquoit Valley 4-3 (175-183) NYSSWA HM MaxPreps 448/11275 PS unranked Titles: 1 3- Beaver River 3-4 (156-173) NYSSWA UR MaxPreps 477/11838 PS unranked Titles: 2 6- Onondaga 6-1 (238-44) NYSSWA #12 MaxPreps 194/6354 PS #10 Titles: 7 7- Sandy Creek 5-2 (213-133) NYSSWA HM MaxPreps 318/9014 PS unranked Titles: 2 2- Dolgeville 7-0 (354-135) NYSSWA #6 MaxPreps 108/4262 PS #7 Titles: 16 Comments: Dolgeville’s offense vs. Onondaga’s defense would be a good second round match-up. The winner would figure to take on Bishop Ludden, who won the state in Class C a decade a ago. Bishop Ludden beat Sandy Creeek 33-20 and Onondaga 12-6. Dolgeville beat Mount Markham 40-20 and Waterville 62-28. Onondaga beat Sandy Creek 18-6 and Beaver River 40-14 Sandy Creek beat Waterville 28-14 and Beaver River 40-24 Beaver River beat Sauquoit Valley 15-12 and Waterville 34-28 Sauquoit Valley beat Waterville 38-24
