QUARTERFINAL results and SEMIFINAL match-ups
Four teams that have never won the title advanced to the semi-finals.
Indiana (Pennsylvania) beat Assumption (Massachusetts) 27-22. “The top-seeded Crimson Hawks (13-0) outgained Assumption (11-2), 443-318, including a 340-85 advantage in rushing yards, but the game was kept close because the Greyhounds forced four turnovers (3 interceptions, 1 fumble) and recovered an onside kickoff — all in the first half.” The game wasn’t decided until a Hail Mary on the last play fell incomplete.

West Florida won the battle of the “Wests”, beating West Alabama 28-21 a week after they beat West Georgia 17-14 a week earlier in the second round. The win reversed a regular season defeat, (18-35) for the school, which just started its football program last year. Three unanswered touchdowns wiped out a 7-14 deficit.

Harding (Arkansas) spoiled the party at Ferris State, (Michigan) 16-14 on a field goal on the last play. “The Bison drove 62 yards on 16 plays that consumed 6:59 on the clock. They drove to the 1-yard line with six seconds left, called a timeout and then downed the ball between the hashmarks before another timeout to set up the game-winner.”

Texas A&M-Commerce (once upon a time we called them East Texas State when they won the NAIA title in 1972), upset undefeated, #1 ranked Minnesota State-Mankato, (who once upon a time was known as Mankato State) 31-21. An 80 yard punt return for a score gave the visitors the lead early in the third quarter and they were never behind after that.
