CLASS AA
CBA has rolled over everybody they’ve played this year except Henninger, whom they subdued 33-20 in the regulars season and 19-14 in the sectional final. CBA scored in the first quarter on a DeShawn Salter 2 yard plunge. Henninger answered with a one yarder by Justin McGann but they missed the extra point. Jonathan Stackhouse ran 14 yards in the third period but the Brothers also missed the kick. The Black Knights then took the lead after a 40 yard fumble return by K. J. White and a Keisian Scott pass to Brandon Wilbur. But quarterback Jr. Zazzara closed it out with a 59 yard run to send CBA to the states and the Section III team most likely to go all the way. CBA is 10-0 (441-142). This was their 10th sectional title. Only Dolgeville in Classes C-D has more.
CLASS A
Indian River had destroyed Carthage 48-12 in a late regular season game but they forgot to plow salt in the soil and the Comets were back in the air for the championship game. They hung in it all the way and got the ball, trailing 13-20 with two minutes left and no time outs. Quarterback Bailey Wilkinson led the team down the field to score on a 2 yard run by Wilkinson with 21 seconds left. Then Josh Yelvinston scored the winner on a two point conversion off a reverse. Wilkinson ran for two scores and launched a 62 yard bomb to Dylan James. Carthage is 9-1, (310-187). This was their 3rd sectional title.
CLASS B
Oneida is a very good team but in 8 quarters they were never able to dent the Cazenovia goal line, losing 0-26 during the regular season and 0-14 in the sectional finals. Even when they intercepted a pass on the Cazenovia 13 yard line late in the game, they wound up giving the ball over on downs. Oneida played some defense, too but Laker QB Kevin Hopsiker, who was 5 for 16 for 52 yards passing, ran for two scores for the win. Andrew Vogel ran for 152 tough yards on 31 carries for the winners. Caz is now 10-0 (399-124). This was their 9th sectional title.
CLASS C
General Brown rolled 34-7 over Watertown IHC, who had beaten them 28-26 during the regular season. Zech and Joe Pitre accounted for the 3TDs and the Lions broke open a 7-7 first period tie. Watertown was playing without their star receiver, Nick Koelmel, who had caught 37 passes for 9 scores and wa s key to their offense. General Brown is now 9-1 and has out-scored their opponents 317-149. It was their 6th sectional title.
CLASS D
Herkimer jumped on a surprise on-side kick attempt and hit a 63 yard touchdown pass on the first play against Sandy Creek. After a turnover, the were up 14-0. The Comets came back to tie it at 14 but after that, it was all Magicians as they scored 29 unanswered points to take the title, 43-13.
