CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
Lenoir Rhyne set an all-time NCAA record by rushing for 5,563 yards in 15 games. The average, (371), isn’t a record but the total yardage is. But it wasn’t enough to beat northwest Missouri State, the dominant team in the division this year who won their fourth championship in their eighth appearance in the title game.
Trevor Adams threw touchdown passes to 29 and 30 yards to Reuben Thomas as the bearcats built up a 17-0 lead. "I thought we needed to be aggressive in the first 20 plays," Northwest Missouri coach Adam Dorrel said. "We tried to fire most of our bullets early in the first half." (ESPN) The Bears never got to within 10 points after that. It was 22-7 after halftime and 29-7 in the third quarter. The final was 43-28.
Lenoir Rhyne outrushed NW Missouri 273-139 but the Bearcats outpassed the Bears 277-103 and was +2 in turnovers. Adams passed for all those 277 yards and 3TDs. The Bearcat’s final line:
NORTHWEST MISSOURI 15-0 (679-259) #2, 38-14 (3)
