QUARTER FINALS
CLASS AA
Section 1’s New Rochelle beat Section 9’s Newburgh 21-20 and now face Section 2’s Saratoga Springs, which had a bye. The Hugenots converted three fumbles into touchdowns to take a 21-0 lead and then held on to win:
http://www.lohud.com/story/sports/h...talizes-off-turnovers-beat-newburgh/75582748/
Section 3’s Liverpool squeaked by Section 4’s Elmira, (the state’ highest scoring team), 27-22 and will now face Section 4’s #1 ranked Aquinas, which crushed Section 6’s Orchard Park, 42-7
Jadakis Scott scored 3 TDs, including the winner with 48 second left as the Warriors overcame a two touchdown deficit to win:
http://highschoolsports.syracuse.co...outrun-elmira-for-27-22-football-playoff-win/
Aquinas used a quarterback who’s going to Penn State and defensive star who is on his way to Notre Dame to crush the normally formidable Orchard Park:

The semi-final match-ups:
Section 1: New Rochelle 11-0 (325-144) NYSSWA #3 MaxPreps 12/793 States: 16-7 with 2 titles
Section 2: Saratoga Springs 10-0 (401-128) NYSSWA #7 MaxPreps 3/331 States: 3-3 with 0 titles
These teams have no common opponents. Saratoga Springs has the higher ranking in MaxPreps but New Rochelle has the better one according to the state sportswriters. And they have the better pedigree.
Section 3: Liverpool 10-1 (424-127) NYSSWA #9 MaxPreps 4/429 States: 3-2 with 0 titles
Section 5: Aquinas 11-0 (374-118) NYSSWA #1 MaxPreps 2/184 States: 21-5 with 6 titles
Aquinas beat CBA 33-20 at the start of the season. Liverpool lost at home to the Brothers in mid-season 17-28 but crushed them 35-9 in the sectional championship. Aquinas is a perennial state power while Liverpool has just gotten their feet wet at this level a couple of times. Holding Elmira, who had been averaging 54 points a game to 22 was impressive. So was walloping Orchard Park by 5 touchdowns. And the Little Irish’s defense has been ever stingier than the Warrior’s
CLASS A
Section 1’s Our Lady of Lourdes beat Section 9’s Cornwall 21-20 and will now face Section 2’s Amsterdam, who had a bye. Lourdes advanced due to a blocked extra point in overtime- ouch!:

Section 4’s Maine Endwell won their 62nd game in a row against Section 3’s Whitesboro, 42-7 and will now face Section 4’s South Park, who beat Section 4’s Brockport 20-7.
The Spartans scored on their first three possessions to take command vs. Whitesboro and never relinquished control of the contest:
http://highschoolsports.syracuse.co...ikes-early-often-in-42-7-win-over-whitesboro/
Dave Thomas scored on an 89 yard punt return and a 64 yard pass play to lead Southpark past Brockport:

The semi-finals match-ups:
Section 1: Our Lady Of Lourdes 9-2 (311-157) NYSSWA #4 MaxPreps 25/1459 States:10-0 with 0 titles
Section 2: Amsterdam 7-3 (341-198) NYSSWA #7 MaxPreps 78/3592 States: 12-5 with 2 titles
Lourdes lost to Yorktown 14-27 and 7-13 to Rye, who they later beat 14-7 in the sectional final. .
Amsterdam lost to Class B #1 ranked Cazenovia 0-47, then to Queensbury 20-28, and Troy 21-26, all in their first three games. These teams had no common opponents. Lourdes would seem to be the favorites here but watch out for Amsterdam , who is 7-0, (300-97) sicne their bad start and has a fine record in the states, as does their section, (35-18 with 4 titles)
Section 4: Maine-Endwell 11-0 (482-146) NYSSWA #1 MaxPreps 5/456 States: 17-2 with 5 titles
Section 6: Buffalo South Park 9-1 (424-150) NYSSWA #3 Max Preps 11/781 States:10-0 with 0 titles
South Park lost to Canisius 20-23. They have no common opponents. South Park won’t pis on the Spartans.
CLASS B
Section 1’s Westlake beat Section 9’s Marlboro by the odd score of 14-5. They will face Section 2’s Schuylerville beat Section’s 10’s Franklin Academy 44-12.
Westlake overcame a 0-3 halftime deficit with a 93 yard kickoff return and a 52 yard run to win a defensive battle with Marlboro, who had to feel better about themselves after losing to Schalmont 0-66, (down 0-60 at halftime), and 14-49 the last two years.

Will Griffin and Zach Pierce accounted for 5 touchdowns in the Schuylerville “Black Horses” easy victory over Franklin:
http://www.poughkeepsiejournal.com/...o-falls-state-quarterfinal-westlake/75777284/
Section 3’s Cazenovia survived the loss of TJ Connellan and a challenge by Section 4’s Waverly to win in overtime 17-14. They will now face Section 6’s Cheektowaga, who beat Section 4’s Batavia is a wild 43-36 shoot-out.
There’s not a lot of field goals in high school as there aren’t that many reliable kickers but Cole Williard kicked a 22 yarder to secure the Laker’s win.
http://highschoolsports.syracuse.co...er-waverly-17-14-in-class-b-football-playoff/
Cheektowaga scored the last three times to finish off the comeback win over Batavia:
http://www.thebatavian.com/howard-b...far-west-regional-to-cheektowaga-43-36/101422
The Semi-final match-ups:
Section 1 Westlake 9-2 (280-57) NYSSWA #5 MaxPreps 74/3484 States: 1-0 with 0 titles
Section 2 Schuylerville 11-0 (479-81) NYSSWA #3 MaxPreps 17/1180 States: 3-2 with 0 titles
Westlake’s rating from MaxPreps just jumped from 219/4928 to 74/3484 with their narrow win over Marlboro. They lost to Pleasantville 6-20 and Nanuet 0-12 but came back to beat Nanuet 6-0 in the Sectional final. Schuylerville is the team that eliminated Schalmont in the Sectionals- and they did it 42-0, so this is a very potent team. These teams had no common opponents.
Section 3 Cazenovia 11-0 (430-78) NYSSWA #1 MaxPreps 8/696 States: 2-7 with 0 titles
Section 6 Cheektowaga 11-0 (451-174) NYSSWA #2 MaxPreps 18/1273 States: 2-2 with 0 titles
These teams have no common opponents. The waves seemed to be parting for Cazenovia to finally win a state championship and give Section 3 its first title in Class B, the only one they’ve never won. The Lakers were ranked #1 and Chenango Forks and Maine-Endwell were in other classes. Then TJ Connellan got hurt and they barely squeaked by low-rated Waverly. Cheektowaga looks very strong and the dream could end here.
CLASS C
Section 2’s Greenwich handled Section 10’s Gouverneur 49-13 to move into the semi-finals against Section 9’s Liberty, who knocked off Section 1’s perennial power, Dobbs Ferry 33-21.
Greenwich exploded from a 7-7 halftime tie against Gouverneur to score 6 unanswered touchdowns while their defense produced five straight three and outs:
http://www.saratogian.com/sports/20151114/hs-footall-greenwich-routes-gouverneur-49-13-in-regionals
Turnovers and penalties were Dobbs Ferry’s nemesis in their loss to Liberty, who they out-gained 314-233:
http://www.lohud.com/story/sports/h...ove-costly-dobbs-ferry-falls-states/75582658/
Section 4’s two time defending state champions Chenango Forks routed Section 3’s Utica Notre Dame for the second year in a row, 35-8, (last year it was 57-14) and will face Section 4’s Haverling, who beat Section 6’s Maple Grove, 16-8.
For the second straight year, UND’s Jugglers got taken by a Fork in the road:
http://www.pressconnects.com/story/sports/2015/11/16/fifth-quarter-forks/75883558/
Maple Grove covered a fumble on Haverling’s 20 yard line late in the game but went backwards:
http://preptalk.buffalonews.com/201...uqua-lake-falls-short-against-bath-haverling/
The Semi-Final match-ups:
Section 2 Greenwich 11-0 (478-85) NYSSWA #2 MaxPreps 35/1958 States: 2-1 with 0 titles
Section 9 Liberty 11-0 (486-87) NYSSWA #4 MaxPreps 58/2878 States: 1-1 with 0 titles
These teams had no common opponents. They have similar records and victory margins but Section 2, (25-20) is much better historically than Section 9 (4-20) in Class C. That’s because Section 2 has three times as many teams in this category, (18 to 6). So Greenwich had better competion.
Section 4 Chenango Forks 10-1 (374-119) NYSSWA #1 6/516 States: 24-9 with 4 titles
Section 5 Haverling (Bath) 11-0 (470-70) NYSSWA # 3 MaxPreps 23/1439 States: 4-4 with 0 titles
These teams had no common opponents. Chenango Forks lost to Class A’s Maine-Endwell 21-28. That’s two classes above this to a team that’s won 62 games in a row. But their three remaining rivals all outscored their opposition by huge margins, much larger than Fork’s. Any of them could present an interesting challenge.
CLASS D
Section 1’s Tuckahoe, one of two Class D teams in that section, won its third game of the season, (they have to fill their schedule with teams in the bigger classes), beat Section 9’s Roscoe/Downsville/Livingstone Manor, (which pleased me because I won’t have to type that any more), 35-21. They will face Section 7’s Ticonderoga, which shocked Section 2’s Whitehall 32-0, (led by Ethan Allen).
Tuckahoe blew out to a 35-7 halftime lead and coasted over R-D-L:
http://www.lohud.com/story/sports/h...oe-enjoying-momentum-winning-streak/75647478/
Whitehall lost three fumbles and their 1,500 yard rusher, Darnell Hillman in their on-sided loss to Ticonderoga:

Section 4’s Tioga blew out Section 3’s cannon fodder for the fourth year in a row, beating Sandy Creek 50-14, (in 2012 they beat the same school 54-13). For three years in a row they’ve lost to Section 6’s Randolph, who went on to win the state title. But Randolph lost in the sectionals this year by Franklinville/Ellicottville, who then lost to Bishop Kearney of Section 4, 22-12.
Jesse Manuel rushed for 235 yards and 4TDs to lead Tioga in another romp over Sandy Creek:
http://www.watertowndailytimes.com/...er-sandy-creek-in-state-quarterfinal-20151114
6-3 senior quarterback Todd LaRocca “was a man among boys” and scored a TD and passed for another in Bishop Kearney’s win:

The semi-final match-ups
Section 1 Tuckahoe 3-6 (136-246) NYSSWA Not Ranked MaxPreps 496/12,493 States: 17-10 with 2 titles
Section 7 Ticonderoga 10-1 (339-114) NYSSWA #3 MaxPreps 70/3404 States: 4-5 with 0 titles
These teams had no common opponents. Tuckahoe lost to Chester, 6-41 along with Woodlands 6-26, Hackley 20-30, Riverdale 12-32, Dobbs Ferry 6-41 and Rye Neck 6-25. Ticonderoga lost to Moriah 6-28 but came back to beat them 6-0 in OT in the sectionals. I hope they beat Tuckahoe so that we won’t have a state champion with a losing record.
Section 4 Tioga 10-1 (547-231) NYSSWA #1 MaxPreps 29/1722 States: 5-4 with 0 titles
Section 5 Bishop Kearney 9-2 (382-206) NYSSWA #2 MaxPreps 57/2792 States: 1-0 with 0 titles
These teams had no common opponents. Tioga lost to Newark Valley 32-35. Bishop Kearney lost to St. Mary’s 36-44 and to Farrell 28-42. Can Tioga finally break through to the state finals? This may be their year.
