For my Daughter Brooke. On Monday she is haveing Spinal Fussion surgery to correct her scoliosis( see XRay above). It is an intense surgery that will last between 8-11 hours. They first have to break her back by seperating all her vertabray. They then will place a metal rod thrue her affected vertabray. Then they will do a bone graf off of her hips. Then they will fuse all of her vertabray together makeing one solid back bone.

Complacating this surgery is her type one Diabeaties. When she first came down with her Diabeates in 2003. I posted a smilar message on the board and after several days in the ICU she pulled thru. The power of the board and prayer is awesome!

Best of luck Jim. My daughter will eventually have a fusion also. She has dual titanium rods that expand and straighten her spine as she grows. But she also has to have expansion surgery on those rods every nine months or so. She's twelve now and when she started having the surgeries it was declared "radical surgery" . I don't know what's radical about saving a life, without a brilliant Doctor Emans at Boston Childrens Hospital Ava wouldn't be with us now. It's a miracle how much better the situation has gotten for the children involved now. My thoughts are with you and be strong brother.

Jim, best of luck to your daughter. One of my best friends went through that same surgery about 10 years ago, and it was a great success for him. No doubt your daughter will have the same experience.

Consider it done. One of my best friend's daughter went through the same thing when she was about 15. It's a tough road but she eventually got out of her back brace and resumed a normal teenage lifestyle. Went to college and now is the mother of 2 young kids herself. If she's anything like her Dad I'm sure she's a fighter and will come through fine.

I had the same surgery in April of my senior year in high school (waited until after SU hoop season, natch) and while it'll be a tough few months after the surgery, I'm sure she'll bounce right back like I was fortunate enough to do. Sending prayers and good thoughts your way.
