“I don’t think they hung with us,” said Huskies senior guard Shabazz Napier, who had 15 points in the loss. “Syracuse is a great team, but we’re more than capable of beating that team by eight to 12 points, and we were up by eight or nine points and we just let up. We stopped doing what we were supposed to do.”

What a complete idiot.

Could beat them 100 times and he would still think they are better.

No, they didn't hang with you ... they friggin' beat you for the third time, you little livin'-in-denial weasel, with all due respect.

Pretty much sums up UConn's problem all season, their players think their doesn't stink and half-assed their way through the whole season. This quote tells me at least one player hasn't learned, and they won't be as big a threat in the NCAAs as I'd feared.

And we'll probably see quotes about how they were better than whoever beats them in the round of 32 by one of their players afterr the game. This team has got to be the most frustrating one JC has ever coached.

You know this comment deserves special commendation. UConn is having a sh@tty year, suffering 12 losses. That's a lot. Syracuse is responsible for 25% of their season loss total and this kid thinks SU "can't hang with them." It is awesomely ignorant and delusional.

Hey, if it helps him sleep at night let him have his fantasy. It might be soothing until their early exit from the tourney.

UCONN could be in the final four again, IMO. Would not want to play them again

Big Talent + Small IQ = UConn Basketball

= 3 national championships= elite program= UCONN enough said

Great regular seasons = Pittsburgh. Some of you people may look very foolish in a couple of weeks.

National championships and final fours are what make elite programs, no final four for us this year and the season is essentially meaningless, IMO. Preseason is almost over

I don't take issue with what he said. They have the talent to beat any team on any given night. The words: "We stopped doing what we were supposed to do" says it all about the 2011 / 2012 Huskies. If they could play 40 minutes, they'd be tough.
Collectively, they just don't have it mentally.

Hey Ithaca, as much as you may think that they might be cutting down the nets in April, the statement that we CANT hang with uCONN, after BEATING them 3 times this season, is ridiculus

While I dont disagree with you on Final Fours, the real issue is that if Syracuse and Kentucky dont make it this year, it will be just another year in which the best team doesnt win the Championship. As crazy as it is, I am actually becoming jealous of football's dreaded BCS. At least they usually get the best teams in it. The Tournament is basically a gimmicky crapshoot at this point that "once in a while" the best team wins.

Although I wouldn't describe the season as "meaningless" if the team lost in, say, the Sweet 16 or Elite 8 (disappointing, yes, but still an accomplished season), for the most part this post is correct.

A lot of posters here are pounding their chests and celebrating before the dance has even started. The truth is, we don't know for sure whether Syracuse or UConn will finish the season as the "better" team.

The successful regular season and conference tourney's are nice, but not the ultimate measure of a college basketball team's excellence. Ultimately, a college basketball team is measured by how far they go in the Tourney. That's just the way it is.

Being the 1 seed in the East playing home games in Pittsburgh and Boston, not making the Final 4 would be a HUGE disappointment.

That's BS.

In the Tournament, each team knows they have 40 minutes to prove they are "better" than the opponent. If they can't do it, then sucks to be you, but you can't say you're better. Period.

No excuses. Any team can claim they are the "best team," but they have to prove it. And if you can't go through the Tournament unscathed, 6-0, then you haven't proven it.

I don't disagree with his statement. When SU plays sh!tty UConn can hang with us, when we turn things on it looks like a Varsity vs. JV scrimmage and when your on the JV team you become delusional.

Wrong. 3 times is a pretty hood indicator of how a game would play out. We played a terrible offensive game yesterday and still won. Enough said.

I dont understand how 3 national championships = them being able to beat us this year. Pretty irrelevant IMO. We are better than them and would beat them once again if we did play them.

UConn is having a crap regular season, undeniably. That said, Cuse has managed to beat this crappy UConn team the past two times by 5 points combined. I'm not sure if that says more about Cuse or UConn. Even the first game was a 2 point game until Cuse put on a very nice run at the end (after Drummond got injured).

More specifically, Napier's quote, while stupid to actually say, isn't far off.

UConn basically missed open shot after open shot and had much better looks than Cuse throughout the game. Shots they normally make just weren't falling, and in the end that is "what they are supposed to do", make shots.

Cuse did a better job of realizing their shots weren't falling and attacking the rim for foul shot opportunities. UConn kept trying to make jumpers and just missing. Cuse also made some well defended shots, to Cuse's credit.

That is the main difference between a more mature Cuse team and very young UConn team, this year, realizing what's working and what isn't.

If I were a Cuse fan, I would be worried that teams will get their hands on the Cuse/UConn games. UConn basically just showed every team out there how to beat Cuse (aside from actually making shots).

Personally I'd want my players to think that and I have no problem with what he said, just being a competitor.

Uhhhh ok sure. Duke and UCONN were definately the two best teams the last 2 years, riiiight. I would rather watch the best teams play each other in a series than watch friggin Butler in the Championship game.

That blueprint has been out for 2 months. Give me a break. One thing Syracuse has that Uconn does not is heart and that more than anything won those last 2 games. Syracuse knows how to close out these survive and advance games.

Actually, SU got up by 6 or 8 or whatever it was as stopped doing what it was supposed to do, letting UCONN get a lead. SU then straightened it out and out scored UCONN by 12 over the end of the game to take the win, again.
