Syracuse University - if you ever decide to put a cannon in the dome for some strange reason, please get one that is bigger than a Super Soaker or a T-Shirt cannon/launcher. This one used by our ACC brethren is a complete embarrassment.

After the ATO cannon exploded in Archbold Stadium 50 years ago, injuring people, I don't think SU would ever allow another cannon. (It was fired after TDs, and it was a decent-sized real cannon -- like the kind you see displayed at old forts).

Get rid of the donkey and replace it with otto. Cannons are for whimps; go missiles or go home.

it obviously was the bottled water laying next to the cannon that was proof that no man could stand and survive the charge and volley...this too must be passed to the pay side for analysis and a determination of just how big do we need to go.....perhaps another Jack and Coke will provide reflection of what happened to the poor soul that was drinking the bottled water...or was that a cigar lighter?

Photograph of the Alpha Tau Omega cannon explosion at the 1960 Syracuse University vs. Penn State game. A gift from a 1922 alumnus, the cannon was fired for every SU touchdown and every winning home game. At the Penn State game, the ATO brothers fired a shot, but a spark fell into a suitcase full of gunpowder behind the cannon. The subsequent explosion flung 5 students into the air. All were taken to the hospital, but there were no major injuries. University officials decided firing the cannon was too dangerous, and it was never used again. I wonder if the house still has the cannon?

Sounds like it wasn't the cannon that was too dangerous - rather, the curious decision to have a suitcase full of gunpowder and keep it right next to the cannon was problematic.

Indeed.

Can we just bring back those smashing hats and jackets?

Those are pretty sweet.

Maybe orange and blue stripes with a rose and pea green alternate version.

The guy on the left looks like a young Williard Scott. Those ATOs sure knew how to dress.
